Which email address are you trying to change? If you have changed your address
for the mailing list([IRCA]), that doesn't mean that your email address for
receiving DXM changed. The address I see this message is coming from and the
one that you have on file for getting DXM aren't the same.  Let me know how you

Re: [IRCA] POST SIZE

2018-01-21 Thread Geralyn Hollerman via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
Folks,Before you do anything, if you want the IRCA name on it you'll have to go
thru the BOD and use standard procedure. A lot of you are no doubt looking at
this thread and saying "Not AGAIN!", as we've had this kind of discussion on
here many, many times, when we were using Yahoo! Groups, Topica, or Mailman.
The main thing the Board was looking at came due to some threads in 2005, when
it was decided to stay with what I believe was the default message size, mainly
to accommodate many digest members who contacted the BOD to complain of the
many "Me too" kinds of messages accompanying many of the rants about IBOC. I
realize things have changed since then, but it probably wouldn't hurt to bring
up the subject again.

Any questions about the mailing list software itself need to be directed to
member Risto Kotalampi (ri...@kotalampi.com); I don't know a whole lot about
the software itself, like in terms of what was in a particular upgrade. He
might be able to tell you if there was a something not allowing messages from a
particular ISP; I know from my own job that hotmail.com is often blacklisted
and then whitelisted due to SPAM coming from there.
For right now, PLEASE, let's get back to radio on this list - isn't that the
main purpose of the list? If you're an IRCA member, you have all the BOD email
addresses; please contact them with your comments. If you're not an IRCA
member, you're welcome to contact me (lynnholler...@yahoo.com)  and I can send
your message on for the BOD to discuss. I know several of them are on Facebook
as well.
Thanks! Lynn.

My vote goes to moving to groups.io. Please do NOT move to Yahoo Groups.
Groups.io - both the web interface and the email list - is about as easy
to use as you can get. Searching for old posts/emails is actually easy
(unlike Yahoo). I have no idea how to search the IRCA mail list for past
posts based on keywords.

I'm glad Pete got his recent post through I was wondering where his
Part 1 of the Caribbean report went. I thought it was something on my
end. I've had other posts in the past not make it through. Like the one
I just sent earlier today asking where Part 1 was.

Gang,

After two back surgeries my back wakes me up a lot in the middle  of the
night.  I have a very nice Sony SW-35 portable  radio that I listen to
until I can go back to sleep.  About 1130 CST last night on 670 I could
hear three stations.

One semi strong with an American football game on.
One pretty faint that was nearly covered by the other two
and the third station was an SS that sounded like a news cast.
Periodically they played recordings of what ever they were talking
about.  The recordings were all of someone giving a speech in Spanish.
An angry speech full of ranting and shouting.  I could not get an ID and
this "reporting" then "recorded speech" then repeat went on for 10 or 15
minutes.

Any thoughts as to who that might have been.

I hope everyone has a peaceful,  happy Christmas,
Steve

[IRCA] A gentle reminder

2016-11-18 Thread Geralyn Hollerman via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
Lots of messages on this list recently! For everyone's convenience, I thought
I'd post a reminder of the [IRCA] list guidelines that are also on the IRCA
website:---
Here is a gentle reminder about postings in this group, approved by IRCA's
board of directors:

- Please, be civil, no personal attacks(or attacks on groups of people, for
that matter) - while they might be "interesting", this is no place for them.
Take it to private e-mail. If
you get your messages by e-mail, look at the header of a message for the
"From:" field - that contains the author's e-mail
address. Send your flames to that address, not [IRCA]. Consistent offenders
against this policy will be asked to leave the list.

- When posting to [IRCA], make sure your message has some radio-related content
in it, be it about a station, DXing in
general, a receiver, IRCA, another radio club, etc. Please, this isn't the
place for chit-chat. If you need to send a message that has nothing to do with
radio, consider sending it directly to the person (or a group of people) you're
talking to. You may need to change where your message is addressed to; if a
message is going to the whole group, "irca@hard-core-dx.com" will be in the
"To:" field (actually, I think it usually says "Mailing list for the
International Radio Club of America ", but the address
is all that's important in this case). If you wanted to send a message directly
to a particular individual, say, instead of the group, you'd have to change
that "To:" field to their e-mail address, say, nob...@user.net. To find that
address, again, look at the headers of the message, and you'll find that
address with their name. E-mail programs vary widely in what they allow you to
do, but the Internet headers on a message are a standard - you should be able
to find these regardless of what program you're using.

[IRCA] Email from the IRCA website

All-This came to the website email address. If you are interested, please
respond to j...@auctionjohn.com - thanks!
---The Western ElectricCW-936 Radiotelephone set was developed by Western
Electric for the Departmentof the Navy during WWI for use primarily on sub
chaser (U-Boat) ships.   The complete CW-936Radiotelephone set consisted of the
following major components:   The WE CW-928 power switch board,
  two CW-927 dynamotors,   the CW-938 transmitter-receiver,
the CW-926A audio amplifier,   the CW-969 antenna switch,   the
CW-930 microphone,   the CW-834 headset and   the CW-929 Horn
Speaker.  The transmitter and theaudio amplifier operated directly off the 350
volt outputs of the CW-927dynamotors.  The entire system operatedfrom the
ship's 30 volt storage batteries. This first completely successfulvoice
modulated equipment was designed for use on any one of fivefrequencies.  The
frequency could beshifted to any one of these, all of which were within the
band 500-1,500 kc.,by means of a simple frequency change switch which cut in
different fixedvalues of capacity and inductance for each of the five switch
positions.   For auction is theCW-938 transmitter-receiver manufactured by
Western Electric for the Navy in1918.  The piece is in the original woodcase.
As seen within the pictures, this isa complete piece with no visible signs of
damage.  The box and components show no evidence ofmodification or restoration.
There are 3VT-1 vacuum tubes and 2 VT-2 vacuum tubes that are intact within
thepiece.  There are 2 additional VT-2vacuum tubes that will be included within
the auction.  This is a very rare piece and another may notbe seen for many
years.  Go to www.clevelandonlineauctions.com and search through the list for
the auctionwith the Honda Mini-Bike as the photo for the auction.
(this piece is said to be in very good condition and has been appraised at up
to $20,000)

Colin, I really wish you'd told me first. We used to have ircaonline.com as
well. I thought you were going to just ask to transfer the ircaonline.org
domain and was waiting for that.

Totally agree - and I am sure that the entire IRCA exec and membership will
be totally in favour
of leaving the domain name alone -- that is part of the branding.

I grabbed ircaonline.com because it was available, inexpensive and useful
for
quick side by side comparisons.

[IRCA] from the PO Box

2014-11-10 Thread Geralyn Hollerman via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
All-
I received this request for help at the IRCA PO Box:

---
Hello,
Just a short note to inquire if you can supply a source from whom I can obtain
nationwide railway, maritime, police, and fire freqs in order to listen to on
the two scanners I've just obtained at a yard sale?
Sincerely,
Michael Hunter
---
This person has a return address in Bethlehem, PA.

I haven't followed scanners much, if at all, since we moved here back in 1998.
Can anybody give me some advice I can send to him? He didn't give an email
address, so I don't know if has an Internet access, but I'd think it would be a
trivial thing for him to do a Google search for the stuff he wants, no?

Well, I guess what he's looking for is some kind of printed book - any
suggestions as to what is recommended?

Thanks!

Lynn.
