 Sorry for the confusion.

I was referring to the scheduling function in the G31 software - it is
capable of scheduling audio recordings, but not scheduling automatic

software by manually starting the recording and letting it run until you
tell it to stop. Alternatively, you can rely on third party software to
schedule the recording, as is the case with the Perseus. Or, with the
right dll file, use the G33 software to automate the recording function

I fully agree with the review comments you quoted. I've been making
spectrum recordings on the Excalibur for a couple of years now, with very
 few problems.

 Nick

For the record, I'm running the Excalibur (G31) using the software
written for the Excalibur Pro (G33). A couple of years ago, someone on
the Winradio YG wrote a dll file that allows you to use this lashup and
take advantage of features that are in the G33 software that aren't in
the G31 software. One of the differences between the two is the ability
to do spectrum recordings. The G31 SW only allows you to schedule
recordings for single frequencies. I've been using the G33 version of
the software so long that I'd totally forgotten about the limitation in
 the G31 version.

The other possibility is to use third party scheduling software with the
G31 software, like the guys in PEI did. I tried that approach with
mixed success when I first started using the Excalibur. For a while, my
antivirus software thought the scheduling software was malicious and
deleted it on several occasions! I solved the problem by switching to a
 different antivirus package.

The Perseus native software seems to lack any scheduling function, but
third party software has been written to take care of that limitation.
At least that's my conclusion after using the receiver for the past
three days. Hopefully one of the Perseus owners on this list will
 clarify that point.

expedition last fall were jumping through hoops using Splinterware or
 some such
in order to record while they caught a few moments of sleep. It wasn't a
 computer issue.

Meantime, dead simple Spectravue was reliably performing that service

remaining two DXers who were using RFSpace radios.

[IRCA] Experimental WebSDR 0-19 MHz) at PA3FWM's home has been taken offline.

2012-07-24 Thread Horacio Nigro
This experimental WebSDR at PA3FWM's home, covering 0 to 19 MHz,
has been taken offline, as announced a few days in advance.
There are several reasons for this:
* The nearby system at the University of Twente is finally available
again, at http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901.
* The antenna at the university seems to be much better, judging by
the number of users there and here over the last few days.
* Running this system occupied equipment that I would rather use for
other things (such
as further development of the hard- and software).
* I continuously needed to be careful about possible thunderstorms and
disconnect the antenna in time.
* I never intended to run such a system permanently from my home anyway;
I only did so because of the antenna problems at the university site.
For now, the frequency range of the system at the university site is limited
to 8 bands of 600 kHz each.
However, it is planned to change it to general coverage of the HF spectrum
in the future, like this site used to have.
Thanks everyone for using the test system over the past year or so!
Comments can be sent to pa3...@websdr.org .

Hello Everyone:

It is with a saddened Heart that I write this email informing The ULR and
RADIO Community in general of the Passing of my Longtime Friend and DX Buddy,
Kirk Allen of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

According to the Obituary, which is attached in this message, Kirk Passed away
on Feb/19/2012 at home. I am not aware of the details at this time.

Kirk and I go a long way back into the Early 1980's when I first knew of Kirk
as a fellow member of the old Numero Uno and Fine Tuning Radio Clubs. Kirk
was also a Good Friend of our late ULR Co-Founder, John Bryant of Stillwater,
Oklahoma and Richard Allen of Perry, Oklahoma.

Kirk was very active here on the ULR Group and was an inspiration to us all
with his Enthusiasm towards the ULR Hobby. Kirk had logged just under 900
Stations with his ULR Radios, and specialized in DXing LATIN Stations. Kirk
also had a great Interest in Short Wave Radio and was a Leading DX'er in
Indonesian Regional Stations back in the 1980's and 90's and
had Heard and Verified many Hard to hear Low Powered Indonesians!!

Kirk also had a fond spot for PIRATE RADIO and was the founder of one of the
most Famous USA Shortwave Pirate Stations...The Voice of Laryngitis. This was
one of the FIRST PIRATE stations I ever logged back in the early 1980's.

Everything Kirk did in the Radio Hobby was performed with Gustoand I am one
DXer who is happy to have been a RADIO BUDDY of his. I never met Kirk in
Person, but through the years admired his radio artisitry. I had not heard from
Kirk in about 2 weeks, and it is a real shock to now find out why.

The ULR GROUP I'm sure remembers Kirk's many Loggings and his wry sense of
Humour in his Postings.

Kirk you will be missedand say hi to our old buddy John when you bump
into him!! If there's a Dx Heavenit just got a lot richer!

Re: [IRCA] John Bryant endowment suggestion

2010-02-11 Thread Horacio Nigro
As a foreign DXer I am sure the International DX Community will be benefited.

I stress the need to have John Bryant's works published online for the benefit
of foreign DXers that haven't had read those referential material. As in all
aspects of life, improving culture is a must for every individual if he wants
to grow as a person. As in other aspects of life, the same applies to DXing,
its phenomena and its techniques. A better dissemination of information will
bring better DXers worldwide.

[IRCA] Homenaje a John Bryant, renombrado DXista norteamericano

2010-02-10 Thread Horacio Nigro

John H. Bryant
DX-ISTA
EE.UU. de NA

In memoriam

Trans-Oceanic: The Royalty of Radios ( 2008), Zenith Radio: The Early Years :
1919-1935 (Schiffer Book for Collectors) conjuntamente con Martin Blankinship,
y William Wade(1997), Zenith Radio, The Glory Years, 1936-1945: History and
Products (Schiffer Book
for Collectors)(2003). The Zenith Trans-Oceanic, the Royalty of Radios: The
Royalty of Radios
(Schiffer Book for Collectors)(1995).

Otro sobre el cruce del Polo Norte,Dangerous Crossings: The First Modern Polar
Expedition, 1925 (2000); y sobre el gran sabioHeinrich Hertz, the beginning of
microwaves: Discovery of
electromagnetic waves and opening of the electromagnetic spectrum by
Heinrich Hertz in the years 1886-1892 (1988), entre otros de Arquitectura e
historia general.

Great and huge loops were built in this golden era of radio!

Not having much news on new ULR catches here, I've been testing the SDR wav
files uploaded by DXers like Guy Atkins, also from Grayland. I don't own a SDR

Asunto: [IRCA] Ultralight Radio Co-Conspirators Heading to Grayland

Hello All,

Eager to test out the new DSP-enhanced Tecsun PL-300WT and Grundig G8
Ultralight radios in actual TP and DU DXing, John Bryant and I will be
traveling
to the Grayland Motel on the Washington state ocean coast today, hopeful
of snagging some nice South Pacific DX during extremely early (and short)
dawn enhancement periods.

Traveling separately, John will be bringing his outstanding,
state-of-the-art Wellbrook Loop array for setup between the motel and the
ocean beach,
while I will be bringing a somewhat more modest system developed during
recent experimentation-- a collapsible-frame 8' (diagonal) tuned passive loop
constructed with lightweight PVC, and also an all-PVC altazimuth tilting
base. Of course I don't seriously hope to compete with him in chasing DX, but
these ultra-cheap PVC systems certainly provide huge DXing gain for the $50
investment-- and work perfectly with the overload-proof PL-300WT and G8
DSP-system radios.

Guy Atkins wished to join us for the DX sessions, but was unfortunately
wasn't able to fit it into his schedule. We do plan to welcome him for a nice
Sunday lunch together at the best restaurant in Grayland, however, and
share our impressions of the sunrise DX (or lack thereof). John plans to stay
an extra day to enjoy Monday morning DXing, during which he will probably
enjoy the best DXing session of the decade-- right after Guy and I are safely
back in Puyallup.

73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA)
