[IRCA] WWXL-1450 test in nicely in Bowie, MD
WWXL-1450 DX test made it in here relatively nicely, usually audible even down in the mud but came up fairly well on peaks, tried to make an audio off the internal mic of my tablet but didn't work, so couldn't get a darn audio recording, #)!# Using a C-Crane, nothing else faded up so the frequency was a real grumble during most of the test so the code really stood out. Thanks for the info. Just to be safe, I checked their internet feed Friday night at about 11:30 PM and they were carrying rock music, so they were definitely not testing in the 11 PM or so window. [IRCA] KCKM test made it to Bowie, MD/ WWXL test didn't (was it on??)
Test heard amazingly well at a distance of 1800 miles from Monahans, TX with various sweep tones, code, other sounds, and some very distinctive music, faded in/out with 3 other stations out here (2 Spanish and a religious station), but very happy to hear this way out here, the test made it to at least WI, TN, OR, and AB, so nationwide! Definitely heard here, was a regular in Colorado Springs, CO where I used to live... Tried for the WWXL-1450 DX test all the way from 11 PM until 1 AM EDT, heard nothing in the way of code or anything, so gave up, doesn't sound like it ran... Tried for the rescheduled WWXL-1450 DX test midnight 1-AM EDT Friday morning from Bowie, MD using a C-Crane, but nothing noted on the frequency out of the norm, test was changed from Saturday to Friday morning. Their 250 watt night power is NW/SE, so a good chunk right at me at 425 miles away from Lima, Ohio. Receiver: C-Crane, SM-2 Space Magnet Loop. Already sent Email report to station and also via their website. Their website feed doesn't match what's on the air on 940 at this time... Test seemed to run a few minutes later than originally planned, ended at 12:09 AM on my car vice 12:06 AM? A few minutes earlier heard a 'tone' (het) and what sounded like clock ticks, perhaps Cuba? 73's. My local KCEG-780 Fountain (Pueblo) CO is apparently now 24 hour, noted on at 2 AM Sunday morning MDT and it sure didn't sound like any testing.? Still no live announcers but very regular ID's, had one that sound Your favorite classic country hits, day and night, here at The Ranch.? They are 1900 w. days, 700 w. nights, directional north/south.? Very distinct format on 780.? Their studios are in Pueblo on Thatcher Street, xmtr north of Pueblo along east side of I-25, 6 tower array.? Tried for the KOTZ-720 test from Colorado Springs but didn't hear, KDWN and XEDE were all that was in.? I did *TENTATIVELY* log KOTZ-720 from San Jose, CA back in the late 1980's, so I'm sure it is possible, but cx are not now like they were back then, believe me... I did listen to the KOTZ-720 test online though the other night on their website, and captured some neat screenprints of their modulation online during portions of the test on their website and put the screenprints into a Powerpoint package.? [IRCA] 670/720/780 results from Colorado Springs, CO (so far)...
Results so far from the 670/720/780 SP's and tests: 670- KBOI test boomed in here at? both1:07 and 1:37 AM MST with various code and tones, heard them come out of nowhere over KLTT and then eradicate KLTT!? Then back down into the mud.? Beautiful test! 720-KOTZ test didn't make it here, had their online broadcast on my computer booming, even made some screenprint captures of portions of it, but unfortunately, nothing // to it on 720, had KDWN coming in weak-fair herewith local sports show and then infomercials, and an unid. SS in their null, heard them say equis and what sounded like a 5-letter call, haven't ID'ed this yet but it's a regular here it seems. 780-KAZM coming in reasonably well all by itself with Fox Sports, and in their null, the same techno XE station others have been hearing, with a 2nd SS way underneath them.? Heavy AU cx tonight obviously due to the solar storms.? I'll try to ID this one also... signal is decent from them! I'll give ZBV-1's signon at 3 AM, MST (I believe?) a try shortly... with AU cx, who knows! 720 and 780 didn't appear to go off right away at 1 AM MST, they hung on till somewhere between 1:15 and 1:30 AM MST, but they were definitely off at 1:33 AM, MST recheck (720 and 780). [IRCA] 2nd KRSN-1490 test made it to Colorado Springs, CO...
The 2nd KRSN-1490 test made it to Colorado Springs tonight (1/22) midnight-12:10 AM, with various sets of code ID's (slow and rapid), sweep tones, and a nice voice ID about 0205, last set of sweep tones about 0209. Tried an experiment and put my C-crane rx on upper sideband about 1492 khz. and the code, tones, and even the voice ID's were clearer! Lower sideband (1488 khz.) not as good. 1st half of test tonight seemed weaker compared to 2nd half, just the exact opposite of last night's test! Overall signal not as good tonight as Friday night's test though. Even heard them ID AFTER the test into an unid. song (Bangles??) at 12:11 AM, MST. Over unid. ABC talk station... KRSN-1490 Los Alamos, NM test made it here quite easily in null of my local KXRE-1490 Manitou Springs, CO at midnight-12:10 AM MST 1/21, with various combinations of code ID's, sweep tones, and vocal ID's, quite dominant, first 1/2 of test seemed stronger than 2nd half, ran lower power?? This test should've gotten out well, will send report to station. I'm ~ 290 miles from Los Alamos. Per radio-locator.com, KCEG's xmtr is right along I-25, about 5 miles south of Fountain, just opposite of the road from Fort Carson. The next closest xmtr would be KREL-1580's which is off of Mesa Ridge Parkway and I-25 in Fountain (Security-Widefield), about 5 miles south of Colorado Springs. I'll have to drive by the xmtr some time, right along South Meridian Road. Anyone know what's happening with KJME-890's construction permit? It looks like KJME and KCEG both at least diplex from one (or several?) of the towers, as KJME's is in the same location. KCEG is licensed to Pueblo, KJME is licensed to Fountain. FYI, KCEG-780 Fountain, CO was noted on the air this afternoon (1/14) about 2 PM MST with The Ranch ID's and classic CW music, hadn't heard them testing since December 2010. They were turning their xmtr off and on (heard 'clicks') and periods of open carrier and a strange electrical noise so obviously still testing. Also had some ads for businesses in Lakewood and Denver. KJME-890 not noted on though, just 780. I've actually never even heard 890 testing here yet... Tried for the WKVQ-1540 DX test, not heard here in Colorado Springs, CO., only thing heard in KXEL Waterloo IA's null was KEDA San Antonio, TX coming in strong with Radio Jalapeno ID's and a nice legal ID, and XEHOS Hermosillo, Mexico with national anthem sung by a children's choir and a nice ID. There may have been other stations behind them but never faded up for an ID. Last year's test did make it here with 2 sets of code ID's, verified then. Cx were quite AU tonight, it seemed. KSAZ-580 DX test was heard here in Colorado Springs just fine, nice TOH ID at 2:03 AM, MDT, they had their Internet broadcast going also but there was a several second delay between the radio broadcast and the Internet broadcast. Wasn't that easy to hear first with both WIBW and XEFI (?) giving me fits and later KMJ joined the fray... used a C Crane and GE Superadio with Select-A-Tenna...
