[IRCA] 1548 carrier

2019-03-11 Thread Todd S
Using the best of my Modified 2010, I was able to listen to a carrier using
LSB. Signal was in from approx 1320-1355. Carrier was in with slow fades,
then steady and a choppy fast fade in and out then gone. 4QD is the most
obvious suspect.

Re: [IRCA] First TP DX Report from Kauai

2017-04-21 Thread Todd S
There's a cliff in Princeville that I dxed from that produced amazing
results from the mainland with 1050 KTCT bombing in better than the local
570. I can't remember how to get there except that it was somewhat near a
timeshare area with a lot of multi color bark for the tree on the property.
I was about 100 feet up from the ocean.

Or at Poipu on Kauai. I have some logs somewhere for early evening DXing.
Poipu would be great for the DU to Deep South America DX for it serves as a

Re: [IRCA] philosophy of logging a new one

2017-03-26 Thread Todd S
Back in the 80's 891 and 1521 were always in together right after Sunset
night after night. The same holds true today. Right after sunset, if 890 is
getting a banging het from 891, I check 530, 550 and 710 and each and every
time all have hets on them from 531, 549, and 711 always in semi au cx and
barefoot, not once, but 5 times this season under semi au cx then I believe
I've got a strong chance that this won't be Europe. Europe, barefoot, has
not been in well for me this year 1000, I've not hear absolute radio at all
this year on 1215 nor France on 1206. Please also do not forget that George
Sherman and Mike Bates were on top of TA propagation for many years and
they taught me a lot of the nuances. So in conclusion I do believe I can
say that this is a no brainer unless I had a KAZ antenna. If I had a nice
terminated, directional antenna then things would get more complicated. But
I do not.

So I usually keep my thoughts, and my catches to myself because some people
on here seem to think I report fake dx. It's been done on here...publicly.
And I not once EVER received an apology for it.

Basically no brainer hets but you need to hear audio that you can at least

also logged Portugal and 891 from my WI site which can be super good for
low/mid band to Iberia.

The reason is usually given in the application to the FCC to cease

can be expensive. My guess is it's financial. The inability to get parts
rarely results in going dark.

parts, a la WDOD? A look at Radio Locator shows a lot of stations in the
immediate area and, though they use three towers in the daytime and 4 at
night, the strong S.E. lobes of both suggest some of those towers may be
common. Given the number of strong signals in that comparatively small
market, I wonder how anyone makes money in radio there anyway.

More and more older stations are replacing their original transmitters.
Must be only a handful of old stations from the 40's and 50's still on the
air with their original transmitter, tower and site. I bet Scott Fybush has

My best car radio I ever heard was my Dads 68 Catalina when I lived in
Cedar Falls Iowa. This is back in the 80s but WJR and KRVN was a daytime
regular. I also heard 850 KLEU Waterloo Ia very clearly under KOA in Grand
Island Neb. I'd of bet it could've reached Kearny or even Lexington

[IRCA] 1566 carrier

2016-10-09 Thread Todd S
I have a strong carrier here right now that probably would be providing me
clearer audio if I had my ultralites with me but presumably HLAZ. Do have a
weaker carrier on 1224 but not 100% sure it's viable for a week ago I
thought I had, a carrier on 1116 but was from some sort of interference. No
het heard on 1611.
This from my 2010 with a new superloop made thanks to by Jim Dale.
