Actually about 95% of the Ultralight radio enthusiast group has been dedicated to DXing with barefoot (stock) pocket radios throughout our six year history, Les-- it's only the radical fringe 5% that give the group an undeserved fanatical image by engaging in loopstick transplants, oceanside Cliffhanger DXing (with monster FSL antennas) and other dubious activities :-) There are many choices in advanced Ultralight radios in late 2013, but if you would like to experience the best DSP selectivity available in the pocket radio class you should probably go for one of the Tecsun DSP Ultralights like the PL-310, PL-380 or PL-606. These all are based on Silicon Labs' innovative Si4734 DSP chip, which really helped to close the gap between the pocket radio class and table receivers. For around $50 you can get fairly good AM sensitivity, surprisingly competitive DSP selectivity (switchable down to 1 kHz), some of the best FM reception available in a portable, and fairly competitive Shortwave performance. The only band that is somewhat of a clunker is the Longwave band, which seems to be there mostly for decoration (although we have developed a loopstick to correct this). With my Sony Icf 2010 and Kiwa air core loop heard morse code and sweep tones at 10:04PM pacific time in Vacaville California Sweep tones followed by morse code at10:10PM.10:13PM 10:14PM 10:15PM sweep tones PST. Also heard sound effects and 10:17PM morse code. 10:25PM sweep tones and morse code PST 10:30PM sweep tones followed by morse code. recorded the whole test on mp3 olympus voice recorder. thanks for them running the test.I am 62 miles from San Francisco and 50 miles from Sacramento.Most San Francisco stations here i can get a null on them at night and that is the same with Sacramento stations. Hi Saul this is Curtis in Vacaville I am 62 miles from San Francisco and 40 miles from Sacramento. The conditions out here in Vacaville CA can be odd alot of times possibly due to ground conductivity. At times during different months 560 KSFO KEAR 610 and other SF stations can fade in and out here. I can hear them good in the daytime but sometimes at night the signals are fair. KNBR 680 Usually has a good signal day and night. KCBS 740 comes in good in the day but at night will fade in and out at times. 810 KGO good day and night. 860 KTRB fades in and out also during the night here. but daytime comes in good. 1100 KFAX good signal daytime not so great at night. Sacramento stations are the same as above. 1140 KHTK good day and night. KFBK 1530 good day and night. I have a radio west loop and a sony icf 2010. I also have a quantum loop also. Most of all I use my sony icf 2010 radio with a loop that I got years ago on e-bay the KIWA Aircore Loop which i use the most for dxing.! The KIWA LOOP is probably the best antenna I ever have used it is amazing. I also have the selectatenna and the quantum stick i use when i am traveling. [IRCA] does anyone know what is the best handheld digital tv for picking up long distance reception.

[IRCA] GE Superadio question
Hi I am Curtis Mcmenamin IRCA member and I have a GE Superadio 1 but when I plug in a headphone to the radio I get a distorted sound and can not hear a station on the radio but when there is no headphones plugged in the radio i can actually here stations coming in but when I turn the volume up higher on the radio I get a distorted sound and i can not hear the station but distorted static. lowering the volume the radio I can hear radio stations clearly but dont know what the problem is with the sound plays fine at a very low volume but can not hear well with the volume too low. does any one know how to fix the superadios in the IRCA or NRC club or know where I can get it fixed at.
