Re: [IRCA] Bob Pietsch
To Bob Pietsch's family and to the IRCA Group, Although I have only been on this list for only two months, I could read his e-mails and see right away that he was a very giving person. His interests were in the furtherment of the hobby and I thought his presence was very refreshing. I am extending my condolences to his family, but also to the entire DX community for we are sharing in this loss as well. As the Spanish language expression goes "Vaya con Dios, amigo". 73/Joe Miller, Troy, MI AB8YP (ex KD8DLU) On Fri, 4 May 2007 16:55:55 -0400, David Hochfelder wrote > My condolences to Bob's wife and family. Re: [IRCA] Kraftwerk DOIY DX TEST?
Thx Saul, I had that thought back when the CKDO test was announced last year, but never acted on it. You are right about their music being heard over many of the graveyarders. Die Mensch Machine/The Man Machine is still my favorite even though the pop format is noticably different from their other works. Re: [IRCA] Calling Radio Stations [was: Towers and government]
Marc, I believe it. Last winter, I heard an amateur station from Arkansas running 50 watts (distance 850 miles) on the 60 meter band, plus your station's signal was travelling over saltwater. Thanks for sharing. 73 Joe Miller, Troy, MI On Wed, 18 Apr 2007 16:45:27 +, Marc DeLorenzo wrote > One time around January 1972, I was doing an all-night DX session at > my place near the beach in Hyannis, MA. Re: [IRCA] MW transmitter pricing info: was '800 in Bonaire'
Paul, Pete, & Group That is about what I had expected to see. A 1,000 watt amateur radio amplifier is $3,000-4,000 and they typically don't run the full duty cycle as a broadcaster would. The other "wowzer" is the cost of electricity as most amps typically use twice as much electricity as what their power ratings state, a 50 kw amp uses 100 kw of electricity (not very efficient are they?). Re: [IRCA] 800 in Bonaire
Thx Jerry, It's too bad they didn't have this system in place about three years ago when CKLW in Windsor was shut down for several nights with antenna repairs. I have heard "PJB" once in the early seventies, but being 30 miles due north of CKLW, I hope I don't have to wait another 30 years. 73/Joe Miller, Troy, MI On Wed, 04 Apr 2007 13:36:20 -0400, jki5384486 wrote > I talked to one of the "powers that be" yesterday from TransWorld Radio. > I asked about 800, some changes have been made. [IRCA] Introduction
Hello everyone, I believe many or most of you know me by now through my participation on the NRC DX List, but I have finally taken the big plunge and joined this fine list as well. I have been an on again off again DXER since 1967 when my dad brought home a 10 transistor Arvin portable multiband receiver. I asked him what the "SW" band was for, he told me, and he never saw his radio again after that :) :) :) HI! Since then, I have owned at least five receivers (I lost count) and enjoy chasing LW, SW and FM as much as MW. I also tried for an amateur radio license a year ago, and I've recently upgraded as a no-code general. Looking forward to your postings. 73, Joe Miller, KD8DLU, Troy, MI -- WOW!
