Patrick,
The Russian on 180 is parallel in programming to shortwave 6075. Also,
Russia on 279 has been huge this season.

Thanks for the report from Hawaii. I have never heard a TP that early
though. Chuck Boehnke from the Big Island used to report in the Winter
Russia 1476 all day.

Patrick,
I have heard modulation on 180 KHz at local noon during several winters in a
quiet location. The carrier is always detectable with a BFO. 180 (Petro)
sunset is around 0510 UTC this week. 279 has been the strongest TP this season
out here. Full listenable quality on consumer Grundig portables with their
built in ferrite antennas. In fact, 279 beats 774 and 972 in reliability night
after night in terms of what I would call a monster signal.

The Alaskan longwave beacons with voice weather have also been strong,
including 529 KHz in a battle with Cuba on 530.

279 also is the strongest Russian longwaver here too, but it was
interesting that at 0500, only the one Russian LWer (180) was audible.
No sign of the others. By 0700, most are in though. I even got a QSL out
on 279 some years ago.

Hey Brock - I am heading to Honolulu a week Friday
for a few days before hopping to Kona on the Big Island.
Where are you located relative to Waikiki?
