[IRCA] TP 15 Mar Victoria version

2017-03-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Perhaps not as lively a morning as yesterday, but not to be sneezed
at either. There likely were titbits that were missed when going
over the recording. The peak seemed to be around 1405UT, with things
quietening down considerably by 1420UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK man and woman in Japanese 1341UT
747 JOIB start of English lessons after 1400UT
774 JOUB Korean lessons 1306UT; carrier still pretty good at 1541UT,
but this had signed off at 1440UT

828 JOBB English time trials 1401UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1412UT
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1407UT...this was pounding in also with man
in Korean after end of Chinese broadcast at 1600UT nearly two hours
after sunrise.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK man in Japanese //594 1340UT
873 JOGB end of Chinese lessons, distinctive theme music 1359UT
954 JOKR woman in Japanese 1311UT
1206 Yanbian likely; woman talking Korean 1403 and 1412UT
1287 JOHR man in Japanese 1415UT
1593 CNR1 Chinese news by man 1401UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

558 HLQH woman in Korean 1325UT; not //603 at this time, but noted other times
612 JOLK and likely 4QR woman talking //594 1401UT, but then man
talking, DU English inflection took over

702 NHK2 woman in Japanese //774 1335UT
738 Taiwan Fisheries, lively pop music //1143 1336UT
945 CNR1 man in Chinese 1413UT //1593
963 CRI chimes and fanfare 1400UT
981 CNR1 woman talking //1593 1335UT
1053 man talking, really too murky to guess language, but more of a
Chinese than Japanese inflection , 1341UT

1143 Taiwan Fisheries, lively pop music //738 1336UT
1323 CRI chimes and fanfare 1400UT, quite faint considering strength
of carrier.

1422 JORF man and woman in Japanese 1408UT
1503 JOUK man in Japanese 1415UT, after NHK1 theme music

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

603 slow voiced woman seemed //558, 1405UT, but someone else there too.
891 JOHK man and woman in Japanese //594 1318UT
918 China unID. pips heard 1400UT, man talking sounding Chinese 1410UT
1017 man talking,sounding Korean 1404UT, not //NHK2.
1044 CRI chimes and fanfare 1400UT
1089 talk by man sounding Chinese? 1407UT. Definitely not //774
1134 man talking, sounded like a speech and maybe Chinese inflection? 1408UT
1242 woman talking, pop music 1408UT
1386 NHK2 English lessons //774 1403UT 1494 female pop vocal 1416UT
1494 female pop vocal 1416UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

531 621 639 711 729 819 846 864 909 936 1035 1098
1107 1179 1278 1314 1332 1359 1368 1458 1467 1575 seemed to be
Asian;1098 likely DU?

best wishes,

Nick

Yes, Nick, this was one of the strangest TP-DX receptions I've ever
experienced, given the sinking conditions. 1044-CRI isn't the type of station
that shows up when the band is depressed, let alone on a handheld portable at
this mediocre location!

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

HLAZ came close around 1325UT with the Japanese program; even had a
bit of audio around 1400UT

Reasonable audio  at  times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1566 HLAZ peaking 1321-1327UT with man and then woman in Japanese,
organ music, choral singing etc.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

774 JOUB man in Japanese 1142UT  //828
1593 CNR1 likely, man in Chinese 1334UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

594 JOAK man talking, another man on phone 1149UT; NHK pips at 1200UT
738 Tahiti likely; man and woman talking, Frence inflection 1246UT
828 JOBB man talking 1143UT  //774
1044 CRI man and woman talking 1351-2UT, Japanese inflection?  CRI
chimes and fanfare 1400UT clinched it, weak, distorted, definite.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or

[IRCA] TP 15 Mar Victoria version

2015-03-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
An interesting morning, though not as powerful and varied as
yesterday, but some of the variation went towards the Philippines,
and Indonesia (1377), and as on other relatively poorer mornings,
HLAZ just went on and on after sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK various times
747 JOIB man in JJ //774, 1407UT
774 and 828 many times from 1230 to after 1400UT, 774 the most often
972 HLCA two men in KK 1236UT
1017 CRI woman and man in KK 1404UT; ID'd at weaker strength my music
leading up to chimes and fanfare at 1400UT, which were barely heard,
though the music was quite strong
1566 HLAZ the last strong peak was at 1608UT rock mx (!), and man in
KK, briefly better than 1560 at this time. Choral mx at 1615UT was
pretty good, but after that, it was mostly carrier, though with audio
traces as late at 1636UT (oh yes, FEBC ID at 1600UT in case there was
any doubt)

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

558 HLQH man in KK w?erratic fading 1403UT; ID later by //603
567 JOIK man in JJ //594 1408UT
693 JOAB man in JJ 1316UT //774; CBU's flute mx didn't have many
sidebands just then

963 CRI man in RR 1415UT, //1323 a few minutes later
1053 KK jammer 1303UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

603 HLSA deep voiced man 1413UT //558
702 NHK2 man in JJ //774 1249UT
945 CNR1 vocal pop mx 1254UT; ID'd //981 a minute before
981 CNR1 vocal pop mx 1311UT; man and woman in CC 1406UT
1287 JOHR man and woman in JJ 1324 and 1422UT; noted as late at
1543UT w/rock mx
1314 Philippines? choral singing 1407 faded up to quiet male preacher
1408UT, sounded Tagalog to my untrained ear?

1422 JORF man in JJ 1354UT
1503 JOUK NHK1 theme mx 1410UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

666 JOBK laid back vocal mx //594 1246UT
873 jazzy piano not //774 at 1337UT; didn't sound North Korean,
unlike the opera singing heard at 1402UT o/u JOGB

891 man talking 1408UT, sounded KK, and definitely not //594
1323 CRI man talking //963 1422UT
1377 man talking quietly, definitely not CNR or NHK,
1416-1420UT Heard Indonesia here last year around this time, so
went to RRI webpage, and there should be a stream for Toli Toli, but
it doesn't work. Station had faded by then anyway.

Strongish het, no or near imaginary audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

[IRCA] TP 15 Mar, Victoria version

2014-03-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Much more even signal strengths from 1200UT through to about
1415UT. Small sunrise enhancement above 1500kHz.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

828 JOBB. Woman in JJ 1401UT
972 HLCA. Woman in KK 1356UT, also peaking at 1425 and 1440UT,
everything else pretty much gone

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK. Man in JJ 1407UT
747 JOIB man in JJ 1402UT //828
774 JOUB. Woman in JJ 1358UT
1503 JOUK. Man in JJ //594 1406UT
1557 Taiwan. Slow vocal mx 1408UT, //webstream
1566 HLAZ. Various times at this level through JJ program,
1230-1345UT. Never quite reached this level during the later CC program

1575 VoA. Usual fanfare, but delayed until 1401UT. Best on N. Flag.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1053 KK jammer 1401UT.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

738 Tahiti? Man talking, sounded FF, 1357UT
873 JOGB. EE lessons 1334UT //775.
981 woman talking, CC inflection; possibly CNR1. 1221UT
1593 CNR1. Woman talking, seemed //6175.

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

2013-03-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Off to work early again, so any sunrise enhancement is missing from
my log. Spotty conditions this morning, and some serious DXing might
have dug out a weak one or two, but didn't have the time.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

1566 HLAZ man declaiming in JJ at 1309UT

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

nope

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be

understood by a native speaker:

nada

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

774 JOUB? man talking JJ inflection 1312UT
1503 JOUK? woman talking JJ inflection 1313 UT
1557 Taiwan? woman talking CC inflection 1315 UT
1575 woman talking, possibly VoA 1427UT, pretty much everything else
gone by now

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
