[IRCA] TP 27 Jun Victoria version

2018-06-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
DU, again, some audio this time, around 1200UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

non

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

612 4QR woman in DU English 1204UT, //702 a minute later

702 2BL ABC radio mention by woman //612 1205UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

567 RNZ National woman singing //756 1210UT

594 man talking DU English intonation 1128UT

756 RNZ National, man talking DU English intonation 1203UT; not //567 1210UT

774 woman talking DU English intonation 1130UT, not //594

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

nothing seemed to be Asian;
 576 585 603 828 846 891 909 963 1017 1503 1566 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

A bit better than yesterday, with some very weak audios from both
Asia and New Zealand

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or

no

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be

675 RNZ National man talking, even weaker than 756, but appeared to
be in parallel 1204UT

756 RNZ National man talking 1203UT, ID'd a moment later by 675 parallel
774 woman talking, then man 1121UT, could have been Japanese
1566 woman mumbling, 1127UT, could have been Chinese, but really quite weak

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

747 1287 1503 seemed to be Asian;
603 1098 seemed to be DU

For Gary: The FSL is going to live in Captain Cook for a while
with a new DXer who I will instruct on the use of the FSL with
an unmodified Eton E100

All will not be lost on this Island adventure.

Welcome home (to the Puget Sound area), and thanks for giving it your best shot
in Kona. I don't blame you for not wanting to search out remote ocean cliffs on
the Big Island-- I was in Hawaii (Pearl Harbor) from 1975-1979, and the Navy
instructed us over and over to avoid dubious areas.

As for FSL antenna DXing on ocean cliffs (in addition to any efforts that your
buddy Joachim Oster may make), I'm sure that they will get plenty of DU-DXing
hang time by a true fanatic on Oregon's Rockwork cliff next month.

You are definitely right that anything can happen, Nick. 828-Trackside was one
of the freakish 2 kW Kiwis which occasionally pegged my PL-380's S/N readout
due to cliff-side propagation boosts at Cape Perpetua (OR) last July.

Thanks Gary. Your logging and my unID definitely makes this one to watch, plus
you're right, PAL says it's Trackside until 1200UTwhich means that my NetSDR
recording may have a parallel available. Not holding my breath though. 1476
has recently been putting in a good carrier, so there is hope.

best wishes,

Nick
