2007-03-04 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I've been going over the tapes I've made during KXEL's unplanned silent
period over the last week, and have found another good one:

On 28 Feb at 1100 UTC I heard a man in English coming up over a couple
of Spanish speakers, and then he gave a nice clear ID "It's 6:00 am,
this is the Bahamas Radio Network".Not a new one, as it heard them
once before back in 1995, but I didn't get such a clear ID at that time.

Although I wouldn't wish an ice storm like Iowa experienced on anyone,
it's certainly been a great opportunity to DX on 1540.

Hi,
Around here I did not succeed in logging much during KXEL's absence. About
99% of the time 1540 was a mish mash of stations. CHIN would appear very weak
and very intermittent around sunset and early evening with mentions of China in
the english speech. A few times I was able to pick out a country station very
briefly in the mess. On one occasion I briefly picked up what I thought was

Maybe WRTK in OH, noted here with black gospel just before 2000 EST, which is
way after their nominal sign-off time. First newie in March!

CHIN and ZNS is more of a problem than WDCD here. I have heard WRTK
ID at least three times in the past 5 minutes. They just pop up with

Didn't note them on any of my TOH recordings up through midnight. Seems
as if my gospel station was probably WSIV, as I did hear their slogan a
couple of times.

Thanks to Saul Chernos, this has been IDed at CHIN. There is a clear
ID at the beginning of the announcement. I don't know why I missed
it. Argh.

I apologize for the doubling up of the messages. My virus scanner
sometimes becomes overly aggressive..

2017-02-02 Thread Dennis Gibson
I think it was on day power after sunset today. Around the same time you heard
it there was a station underneath and sometimes almost as strong as KMPC, which
I have never heard before. I suspect it was KASA. The carriers were on slightly
different frequencies.

You'd never get KASA on their puny night power. If it's still there, I'll
have to try for it.

Re: [IRCA] 1540 UNID Station playing NOS Music last night........Maybe WBCO Bucyrus Ohio......

2008-09-17 Thread Robert Ross

Hi Guys:

I fired off an email to the 2 stations that are Possibilites for the NOS
Music Station I heard last night on 1540 KhzWBCO Bucyrus OHIO and WLOI
Laporte, INDINANA. I asked them if as DAYTIMER ONLY STATIONS they would
have been on at 1956 EDT last night??? I received this reply from WBCO's
Program DirectorCONFIRMING that YES...they were on last night at this
time under Low Power Authorization!! NowI just need to hear WLOI
telling me that they WERE NOT on at that time..that will pretty much
narrow the Only Possibility down to WBCO as being the Station!!

Here's the message I received..

 Mr. Ross:
You may have received WBCO radio on Tuesday Sept. 16, 2008.
WBCO has low power authorization from 7:45 to 8:30pm EDT. Although only 18
watts, as you know anything is possible with AM radio in the evening.
Sign-off in the month of September with low power is 8:30pm EDT, we do play
Adult Standards.

I hope this is of help.

[IRCA] 1540 WADK Newport RI...CONFIRMED on the AIR at time of my Reception!!!

2008-09-17 Thread Robert Ross

Hello Guys:

WellI just got an Email back from Bobb Angel the Operations Mgr for
WADK 1540 Newport, Rhode Islandand he says that at 1956EDT when I heard
their station.they were Indeed on the air!! This in spite of the fact
that they are a Daytime Only Station!! It's possible they were still on
1000 watts Full Poweror if they switched to Low Power, as they should
have..they would have been on only 150 Watts. The Happy part of this is
that the WERE on the air..and I was not hearing a GHOST!!! So with this
Confirmation.WADK 1540 is going in the Logbook...especially since I DID
hear the ID Liner as WADK-NEWPORT!! @ 1956 EDT.

Rhose Island is a NEW STATE for me on ULTRALIGHT Radio.and is STATE #
34 Heard!

Below is a copy of the Email received from the Operations Mgr of the station.

Very happy with this one.

Congratulations Rob!

Since you logged this at 1956EDT, and about 20 minutes ahead of us sunrise
and sunset, all I can add to that is "never underestimate the power of grey
line propagation".
