[IRCA] 1st TAs with new radio
Recorded the 0500 UTC top-of-hour Sunday morning and upon playback, I was very surprised to hear my first transatlantics with my "new" radio: - France Inter from Allouis, France, on 162 kHz, 1000 kW over 3585 miles - Radio Mediterranee Internationale from Nador, Morocco, on 171 kHz, 1600 kW over 3712 miles - BBC 4 from Droitwich, on 198 kHz., 200 kW over 3278 miles - RTE Radio i from Clarkstown, Ireland, on 252 kHz, 300 kW over 3096 miles - AY (navigational beacon) from St. Anthony, Newfoundland, on 356 kHz, 25 watts over 1043 miles - Also heard a carrier on 153 kHz; likely suspect is Antena Satelor in Brasov, Romania, 200 kW over 4598 miles Equipment used was an ELAD FDM-S2 with an 80-meter inverted Vee. 73, Stan, WA1LOU Wolcott, CT, USA ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Be sure to register now for the Joint DX Convention Kansas City, September 9 to 11. [IRCA] 1st TAs with new radio
Stan, Congrats on the TA's with your new radio. Last night around 0300 Z, 162, 171, 216, and 252 were all nicely audible. I captured some great recordings here in Michigan, too. It was fun reviewing them today. Re: [IRCA] 1st TAs with new radio
Hi Stan, it is good that your QTH is quiet enough for LW. Here's a link to what likely still is on LW from Europe. http://emwg.info/ I'd expect your 153 to be Algeria. Look for them also on 252 with Ireland. I don't DX LW so my appologies if the Algerians are no longer. Re: [IRCA] 1st TAs with new radio
Thanks, Scott. I just looked at my 0500 top-of-the-hour recording from this morning and it looks like a repeat of Sunday morning with stronger signals and more of them!
