It was a pretty bizarre morning where the low band was fairly subdued, but
1044-CRI was strong enough at 1350 to manage weak audio on the handheld
FSL-PL-380. Besides a temporarily fair signal from 1593-CNR1 around 1335 and
1566-HLAZ's usual strong run during its Japanese service it was mostly a
morning for the middle-band CRI stations, with 1017 and 1206 also managing
threshold levels.

At my 1255 start time only 1566-HLAZ was showing much energy, holding at a fair
level until it built up strength to manage good peaks around 1315. The usual
NHK big guns on 594 and 693 made halfhearted appearances around that time also,
although the other Japanese regulars and 972-HLCA seemed missing in action. By
1325 the relatively uncommon 1044-CRI was already managing weak audio peaks
with its Japanese service on the "Science Fiction PL-380," a pretty astonishing
occurrence for what seemed like a modest TP morning. Ghostly signals on 1017
and 1206 seemed to confirm the middle band Chinese propagation, although
neither was strong enough to confirm the identity. 1593-CNR1 came out of
nowhere to manage a fair signal around 1330, but by then 1566 had fizzled and
the other high band regulars on 1503 and 1575 were down in the noise. 594-JOAK,
693-JOAB and 603-HLSA all reached fair audio peaks from 1335-1345 but in
general the low band wasn't in very good form. The signals from 1044-CRI and
1593-CNR1 had fizzled by 1400 as Asian propagation lurched toward an early
demise, with the increasing daylight finishing off the last diehards (594 and
693) by 1410 here. Best signal of the morning was from 1566-HLAZ (good) around
1315.
