Re: [IRCA] 529khz Aeronautical info - English
These voice weather stations are called TWEBs - Transcribed WEather Broadcast. Used to be a lot more of them on longwaves but have tended to be phased out over time. Intended for use by aviators mostly. Art Peterson Richmond, CA On Sun, 23 Sep 2007 18:39:09 -0800 WALTER SALMANIW <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > Bruce is right, Colin. Bruce is right, Colin. I've heard both Nome and SQM with aviation weather broadcast loops. Listen for the beginning of the loop...that's the airport closest to the location of the beacon. Also, if nothing is available, they'll have a loop stating so and giving a 1-800 number and UTC time for return to air of weather data broadcasts. Another sub-part of our hobby. Up here in Masset, I've heard perhaps 10 or 15 of these voice beacon stations.Walt. - Original Message - From: Bruce Portzer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sunday, September 23, 2007 1:59 pm Subject: Re: [IRCA] 529khz Aeronautical info - English To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America > Colin > > SQM runs aero weather concurrent with the code IDs. Colin SQM runs aero weather concurrent with the code IDs. I've heard it often. Sometimes I only hear the code identifier, so it may not be on all the time. I've only heard the one in Nome a couple of times. You should be able to tell which one it is by the temperatures and cities. I am getting English AERO info on 529 over top of SQM -- I do not believe I have ever heard this here. FDV Nome Alaska perhaps?
