Hey Stan, I heard WWSM to the other day


Between about 615-645pm Wednesday September 20th, I had a few catches.

Distances between me and the station was about 175 miles.


I've heard WWSM 1510 Annville-Cleona-Palmyra, PA at sunset a few times, but
it's usually a mushy jumble of WLAC, WRNJ and WWSM. But last night, it was
quite clear at times with classic country music and the Westwood One Real
Country Network DJ, but missing station liners:

Heard another new station on my old vertical antenna last night:

2300 UTC - 1510 kHz - WWSM in Annville-Cleona, PA  - 5 kW - country 
music followed by local eastern Pennsylvania news after the top of the hour


By the way, yesterday, I mentioned that I got "my 35-year-old Hy-Gain 
18AVQ vertical back on the air." That is wrong. It is a Hy-Gain 
18AVT/WB-A vertical and I bought it 37 years ago. (My very first antenna 
was the 18AVQ and I can't get it out of my mind!!!)

I always hear WWTC at night so I'm not sure that they are on or at reduced

[IRCA] A new one and a rare one logged

Spanish on 1350 on my 10 pm CDT recording from Sunday night has ads with 501 
area codes after Mexican mx and back into Mex mx so this must be KZTD from AR 
which is new for me. I'll listen more carefully to see if I can pick out a 
slogan. 

Friday night's midnight recording has on 1580 KKTS Evansville, Casper right 
after KREL ID's. KREL is pesty but this is the 2nd time I've caught KKTS which 
is recently on the air. The back null of my antenna completely kills CKDO, 
leaving 1580 a decent channel towards the west.

770  WYRV Church Falls VA 0545-0558 variety of mx then dead air for 15 sec
and ID. Poor to fair but all alone on frequency.  WBBM IBOC nullified due
to poor signal strength.  Index and winter storm definitely were factors.
Pleasantly caught me off guard.

This makes 4 new ones in 24hrs. Cant remember 4 new ones like this since
that super flare a couple of summers ago. 730 WZGV, KCLE  XEMR 1140, and
WYRV.

There is no Church Falls, VA. there is a Falls Church, VA but that is
near Washington DC. WYRV is in Cedar Bluff, VA which is Soutwestern VA.

WYRV is owned by a husband and wife who are the DJ's and they do play quite
the variety of music.

[IRCA] A New one - KOLM-1520

With WWKB having problems, I was finally able to get past KRHW and bag KOLM 
with ESPN sports and finally at 0203 Sportsradio 1520, The Ticket.

Really haven't been doing much DX'ing with both 2010's having problems however 
my first one is now back from repairs and working as it should.

With WWKB having problems, I was finally able to get past KRHW and bag KOLM 
with ESPN sports and finally at 0203 Sportsradio 1520, The Ticket.


I also heard KOLM-1520 at  ELT with ESPN talk over nulled and weakened 
WWKB. That makes four new loggings on 1520 this month, WTHE Mineola, NY, 
WARR Warrenton, NC and WSVX Shelbyville, IN being the other 3. Along with 
WWKB's transmitter problems, I wonder if KOLM was running on day power or 
using the wrong pattern. NRC log shows them as U8, a combination that is not 
found much (non-directional day, directional with different patterns nights 
and critical hours).

Several Midwestern DXD'ers have speculated on that. KOLM was totally absent 
Friday night, but evident 0158-0207 and 0258-0307, mixing with KB and KRHW. 
WTHE and WARR are sunset pests here, WSVX remains unheard.

Follow up- WFMC-730 Goldsboro NC must be on day power- putting in a
great signal at 2225 with gospel music.  Too strong for only listed 94
watts night power.

[IRCA] Another new one over the weekend

[HASCALL, DAVID CIV DFAS]

Caught WSML at 0800 (ET) on Saturday morning, with a local sounding talk
show.  ID as News Radio 600/1200 WSJS - WSML.  

1200 WSML NC Graham 3-28 0800 Good w/local talk show and dual ID w/WSJS
(News radio 600 - 1200 WSJS - WSML).  I already had 600 in my logbook.

[IRCA] Another new one for me 1020 CKVH High Prairie

Another finding on this Perseus .wav file was 1020 CKVH High Prairie AB with a 
full call letter ID and The Fox at 08:00 UTC 30Dec08 at very good level.  Not 
bad for 400 watts!  ..Walt.

Walt and Paul,

Yes, CIVH 1020 runs 400w at night but is a regular here. They get out
well. CKBA-850 is also heard but KICY is a real issue. Infact a bit ago,
phasing the South, KICY was on top of the jumble.

was hearing CW music there and I was hoping it wasn't an un-needed KGYN. At 
20:00MDT I heard the following ID We are 1210-KOKK in Huron and back to 
music. My second new one today.
