Pete: I didn't suggest Yunnan because: it's only on the air 1100-1300 and 1400-1800 UTC. You were listening about 4 PM LT which is 1000 UTC. Also, they are not likely to be directional towards Thailand as their programs are in Bengali, Hindi, Russian and some English. Kinda puzzling, overall. [IRCA] ASIAN TRIP
On April 20, my wife and I embarked on a trip to Asia which included Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand). We also had a four hour wait between planes in Hong Kong. I am OK on Romance languages and can differentiate between Mandarin, Japanese and Korean, but in an environment of Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian/Indonesian, guesswork reigns supreme. Pete, always nice to see what traveller's are hearing. 1475 has been off the air for a couple of years now. At that time, it shouldn't be the superpowered CRI west of you, so it must be Taiwan or Philippines although they are only 10 kw. It's curious it was apparently heard well in Phuket. Perhaps 801 is the powerful Taiwan station? 675 should be the Voice of Vietnam station which is a frequent visitor to the west coast. 612: there's nothing from Vietnam listed. My guess (due to power and relative closeness) is Fujian. Hong Kong: are you referring to the somewhat white knuckled landing approach between the mountains? Hi Pete Some interesting stuff there.
