Re: [IRCA] Another back up idea ??

Rick,

The "quick charge" unit at Fred Meyer is rated as a 15 minute period of
trying to start the vehicle (cranking power), but in reading the specs I
see the unit having 12V at 7A, so I presume that would mean it would
power the R8 for at least 3 hours at 12V at 2A. Am I correct?

Generally, if the battery has a cranking power rating, it isn't a true
deep-cycle battery. You'd have to now the exact battery inside to know
for sure, maybe the manufacturer's site would have something on a
replacement that would take you to some specs.

A regular non deep cycle battery is pretty well useless after 10 or 12
complete discharge cycles.

[IRCA] Another back up idea ??

2007-10-31 Thread Patrick Martin
I called the local Nap Auto parts store to get the lighter plug to run
the wire outside, and the guy suggested a few things, then I asked him
about a "Quick Start" box. He said they had them at $50 on up. They are
a gel-cel and have a built in trickle charger that you just plug in the
wall to recharge. Now, would that work? He told me about "cranking
power", but no mention of how many amps per hour you could get out of
it. They come in different sizes. Anyone know if that would work? Of
course is has the 12V to 110V but that would only be plugged in to
recharge.
