Heard with very faint code at 1:02 and 2:03 EST through a mix of IBOC
hash (probably from WWJ-950 Detroit), WERC, WFIR, KMA (I just KNEW they
would go 24 hours as soon as that antenna work was finished last fall),
and the Cuban ticker.
No sweeps noted, and no test material heard around the 12:00 hour.
Then-CKWS was first heard in November 1971. They were playing "Sweet
City Woman" by the Stampeders that night. They remained a fairly
frequent visitor throughout the decade.
What a decade it was on 960: ZFB1 in Bermuda, WEAV in upstate NY, WELI
New Haven with monthly frequency check, KROF in Abbeville LA with a
hurricane watch and Cajun music, KFLN MT with voice ID on a frequency
check, CFAC Calgary, KLAD OR with voice ID on a DX test, XEK Nuevo
Laredo on monthly frequency check (dunno why an XE was paying for one),
and Radio Sutatenza in Magangue, Colombia.
With KMA 24 hours, is KGGF-690 Coffeyville the last nightly sign-offer
in the Midwest?
Thanks, Saul and the gang, for this test!
