As I said, using just a $10 Walmart boombox.. I got an email from the
station awhile back confirming that this is what I heard. I just got the
calls mixed up.

Never actually heard the calls, as they ID only as "AM - 1140".

Harder DXing these days, eh? Calls never given, long blocks of talk

Apparently, I can't trust websites either.

I have never found a website listing of radio stations that was 100%
correct -

but for Canadian info

is one of the best unless you want to go to the trouble of using
the official Industry Canada database (even this lists many silent
stations as being active)

Note that CFXL-1140 Calgary AB moved to FM more than 10 years ago -
their frequency and transmitter are now used by CHRB-1140 High River AB,
which I presume is the station you heard. They do get out well.

To completely confuse matters, when CFXL moved to FM (96.9) they
never used the

CFXL calls on the FM station and never had a simulcast period - the AM
remained on air under the CFXL calls with different programming for a
few months. A few years later, the CHRB owners added a FM station on
100.9, using
the CFXL call which they later changed. Recently, the Calgary station
on 103.1

adopted the CFXL calls - very confusing to say the least!
