Re: [IRCA] CJCA-930 Edmonton AB to move xmtr site

2008-12-23 Thread Patrick Martin
Mike,

I am sure you get CJCA much stronger than I do, but with their minor SW
lobe, there is still enough signal in this direction to be strong enough
to block 930 to the North.
Maybe, we will be lucky when they move that the pattern will null our
areas better.

2008-12-23 Thread Chris Knight
CJCA is the dominant station at night on 930 into N.E. Colorado. 880-CHQT is
not regularly heard here due to KRVN's powerful signal.

Other dominant Canadians at night are 620-CKRM, 770-CHQR, 800-CHAB,
890-CJDC, 900-CKBI, 960-CFAC, 990-CBW (HUGE!! I can't hear local KRKS under
them), 1010-CBR, 1130-CKWX (dominates), 1140-CHRB (HUGE!!), 1190-CFSL, and
1220-CJRB. All of them have reliable signals every night.

If you take a look at the night patterns of all of those listed Canadians,
you'll see that there's almost no chance that all of them are running listed
night patterns. A few are, but I suspect that several aren't.

[IRCA] CJCA-930 Edmonton AB to move xmtr site

2008-12-22 Thread Deane McIntyre

*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro*
CJCA-930 Edmonton AB has been given approval by the CRTC to move
their transmitter site a considerable distance (about 15 miles) to
the SW, to a

location south of the town of Devon:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/2008/pb2008-121.htm
item 24

Antenna and Transmitter Site Coordinates

Present 53° 23’ 00” N.113° 28’ 36” W.

New 53° 18’ 24” N.113° 43’ 00” W.

The patterns remain unchanged but of course the coverage area
moves a bit to the SW

Dean,

Their pattern is not on Radio Locator so I was just wondering if
there was a particular reason cited in their proposal for the move
like industrial buildup around their current site, area population
shift, etc. It won't make much difference here as they are already
dominant. Thanks.

Deane,

When I saw your post, I said Goodie, CJCA is moving to FM. So, when I
clicked on it, it was a letdown. CJCA blocks 930 enough to keep me from
hearing KNSA A so far. Now, it may be even stronger.

2008-12-22 Thread Bruce Portzer

Pete and the rest:

According to my very old (1970s) NRC pattern book, CJCA's night pattern
has a large main lobe north and a small lobe to the southwest, with very
little power in other directions. They may be moving the tx south as a
way of improving night coverage in the city. I forwarded Dean's post to
a former IRCA member in Edmonton, who's already looking into it.
