Powell, I will have to get back to you on the model number of that particular National. I plan on calling him soon. Todd Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone Powell E. Any advice one this as well would be welcome. ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] Hodge-podg
Todd, That guy's place sounds like a boat anchor lover's dream i.e., I might have an SX-88 but I'll have to look. :) As a high schooler, I dreamed of an SX-42 and then an SX-62. I still have dad's old S-40A (actually an S-40AU, as the transformer is universal, ie you can dial the voltage). The last time that he plugged it in, smoke rolled from it. I'd love to have it fixed for myself. Not much DX of note, either. I was out of Indiana for a week, to Gulf Shores, AL. The trop died in AL just before I arrived but brought Hoosier DX'ers boatloads of high mileage trop. No Es since last year. :( 73, Dave in Indy -- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2011 21:12:19 -0400 (EDT) From: todftscytj7...@aol.com To: ama...@mymts.net, a...@lists.wtfda.info, Irca@hard-core-dx.com Subject: [IRCA] Hodge-podg Message-ID: 8cdfdc7669c31fe-e50-4e...@webmail-m017.sysops.aol.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Hello all! Its been awhile since I have written in. I have been traveling a little, to Houston and later to Phoenix, working a new job and alot of radio stuff. Last weeks I went to this gentleman's home in search of a hallicrafter. I was so excited when he took me to his first room! 40's and 50's Zenith's, philco's and smaller Hallicrafter's stacked upon each other! I was like a kid at the candy store! There was so many antique radios there! I still kept my sights though and told him that I'm still looking for a larger Hallicrafter. I wasn't very versed on mode numbers. George Sherman gave me a crash course on the best model numbers on the way to this gentleman's house. Then he led me to another room that had bigger and better quality radios! In there he had 2 Hallicrafter S 40 A 's for me to sample. I did buy the better working one but it needs new capacitors if anyone knows of someone able to fix this that would be great! I did express to him that I was really looking for a SX 88. He said he might have one but he has to look for it. Seems like he had yet another stash not to be seen by me. DX wise: 1190 from Wabasha, MN isnt back on the air //1250 Red Wing and owned by KCUE. One E-skip opening to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolina's which was minor for me. TV has not been to exciting exciting except seeing SD on trops. AM has been nominal except in April where I heard 1010 WGUN Atlanta-second time heard since the 80's. Also 740 WNOP Newport, KY which is my latest new AM station #1288 heard in the Twin Cities to date. I have rambled enough. Re: [IRCA] Hodge-podg
The SX-88 is nothing more than an improved SX-42. I have a SX-62A. It's a hernia maker. On the SX-62, and likely the SX-42, as the SX-62 is more or less a consumer version of the SX-42 series. The warning is that NEVER EVER let the capacitors across the tone switch go bad. If they do it will destroy the audio output transformer.
