[IRCA] KTRB 860 San Francisco covering KPAM

2012-07-20 Thread Dennis Vroom

Tuning around the band I noticed a strong SS station on 860 completely covering
semi local KPAM.
San Francisco mentioned in Spanish.  Assuming it's KTRB.  Never noticed this
before.

Best regards,

I am wondering if KTRB is switching at LSS or their pattern is messed up
as they have been quite strong of late at night and in the past, they
were much weaker.

[IRCA] KTRB 860's signal

2011-08-24 Thread Patrick Martin
Really interesting since KTRB is on at night, I no longer hear KPAM
Portland. I either get KTRB or CFPR. I have noticed this the past couple
of nights. Is KPAM's night signal gone now? They kind of null the NW
anyway to protect CFPR, but I could get KPAM weakly in the past off the
SW EWE or Eastern Beverage, but now KTRB with their SS replaced KPAM.

Mike, apparently they just had more technical problems as they were
going full blast tonight around 5pm PST. Is the 840 Modesto station
still on the air? Seems I heard they were about to go silent a few
months back. Found one spot on my KIWA, basically ENE/WSW that can null
out most of the QRN listened for maybe half an hour tonight. Heard
KPXQ riding high on 1360 around 5pm and noted the sky wave coming in
around the band by 5:15 but gave it up by 5:30. I have to update my
logs with all the call changes in the last couple years (probably 3-4)
as most likely all I'll be able to hear is call changes..

Thanks for waking me up (dxwise)

Don,

Yeah, I did notice KTRB on today. Listened to AM for the first time in many
moons last night. Mostly trying to see if I could find any graveyarders
IDing through the mud. Radio here is destroyed by high power. I was 3
miles from KFRC xmtr, 5 miles from KNBR and about 8 from KGO. Those, their
spurs, the IBOC spew and RF from everywhere keeps me mostly on FM these
days.

It's not a bad tool - as long as you can match it up to the
sometimes-confusing reality.

Like most of the interfaces out there (including 10watts.com), it
has a hard time with dual-site AM operations.

In this case, the first entry at RECNet is the license at Modesto. The
second is the active CP for the single-site operation at Livermore.
Click on Show Map for that one, and it'll give you the map to the site
that KTRB is now using for day and night. The third listing is for the
revised application for two-site operation, and the map there shows only
the planned day site at Vallejo, which has not yet been built.

Bill,

With KPAM running 50 KW ND days and 5 KW directional SW nights, I
presume KTRB running U4 will have to protect KPAM. I think the main lobe
of KTRB will be West with the TX site East of the Bay.
KPAM has a poor signal here at night off the Eastern beverage. It is non
existant off the NW EWE, as CFPR is dominant. I am about 70 air miles
from the KPAM TX site.

Being SE of SF, you are probably in KTRB's null I would guess. How many
