Re: [IRCA] LF Engineering H-800 opinions sought
Hi Lee, I have been using the H-800 for close to three years. At my location, it's up about 15' in a tree in the front yard. H-800 works best on long-wave, followed by MW. I sometimes will get a MW station on LW or on the Tropical band. I'm in a high RF zone, with 5 transmitters within 10 miles. Some mornings TP's can be heard on the H-800 antenna, but the ewe out performs the H-800 95% of the time for TP's. My favorite is Steve Ratzlaff High Performance Active Whip. With this whip you can cut the metal whip to the right length for your area. In an area with high RF your whip length would be around 22". In the boom docks you could use a much longer length. I was surprise one March evening a few years ago when I heard WYRD 1330 from South Carolina using the HPAW. Re: [IRCA] LF Engineering H-800 opinions sought
Hi Lee: I use the H-900 model, which is very similar. I have several locals, and it seems to handle them very well as long as I don't kick in the preamp on the unit. It is hands-down better than a double-length slinky I have up in the attic on all bands. I know that Dennis Vroom in Vancouver, WA uses an H-800 every morning for lower-band TP work. He's got a pretty big EWE which is somewhat better in the mid- to upper-band range. Re: [IRCA] LF Engineering H-800 opinions sought
I have used this product for many years here in Central Florida. The only problem I have seen was someĀ overload due to 3 stations with-in 3 miles all running 5 KW. But since they drop to 1K/37 and 50 watts or so at night it was no problem. Since the 1KW went silent, the antenna has worked perfectly. I have also sold several of these to my broadcast customers. Unfortunately I can't offer any comparison with a wire, but I can say the H-800 works very well with a phaser. Curt --- W.
