[IRCA] LWBC, S. AZ Thursday night

2019-01-17 Thread STEVE
Better conditions this evening than past couple nights plus much lower
static. Several checks for LWBC had the best around 05 utc: 171
poor/weak (sync AM); 183 poor (sync AM); 189 traces; 198 poor; 216 very
poor/poor; 252 medium (sync AM). 1089 was closest to audio among several
with decent hets this evening.

[IRCA] LWBC in Michigan

2019-01-16 Thread Transistor
Tim,

You mentioned the beacon interference on 252.   Have you noticed there are two
beacons that share the same identifier that easily fall within the passband
when listening to Algeria?  Best I can deduce, one is MB on 254 from Manistee
airport, and the other the same identifier, MB, on 257, from Midland Airport.
Both airports are in Michigan and about 150 miles apart. One can only marvel at
how that ambiguity got past the FAA and FCC.

LWBC all very weak tonight.

[IRCA] LWBC and MW correlation

2019-01-15 Thread Transistor
Hi Steve,

Many evenings so far this month have yielded decent LWBC conditions here in
Michigan. I've made some decent recordings with the SDR for the archives.

Usually 171 and 183 are the dominant stations here, but so far this year it's
been the BBC on 198 and then Algeria on 252. I've actually heard two stations
on 252 occasionally.

And interestingly, 216 R. Monte Carlo has shown up in the early evening a
couple of times.  Back when you and I were doing coordinated listening 216 was
historically rare for my QTH.

252 was exceptionally loud a couple of evenings ago. I suppose we would call it
blow torch status for long wave.

Walt, I've noticed that also where LWBC conditions do not equate to Medium Wave
and with the SDR when I see MW carriers have noted sometimes it's high band
dominant, and sometimes low band dominant, but to verify what you observed,
long and medium waves don't correlate.

Good DX to all,

Scott

Re: [IRCA] LWBC Sat. night

2017-03-19 Thread Bob
I check LW last night for the first time in a while and got 4 stations,
162, 171, 180 and one other one (forgot), this with my new (to me) Drake R8
and 500' dipole. The storms ravaged my dipoles so only have one left for
now until the weather clears. I think I'm going to set up my 4' NRC loop
today.

Not as good as last night but still not too bad. I really didn't expect
to hear LWBC from S. AZ, so being able to hear it at all is really
great. Between first check at 0148 utc and now, 0442 utc, 162 France

heard at 0442); 252 Algeria poor/weak. 1575 and 1584 both very poor hets

[IRCA] LWBC

2017-03-15 Thread transistor
Steve,

Before the closure of R. France on 162 I picked up an external hard drive and
started making overnight recordings of the Longwave Broadcast segment to build
an archive.

It's been interesting observing how 171 and 252 seem to often alternate in fade
cycles.   I'm not saying there's a direct seesaw correlation, but usually when
one has faded the other seems to have come up.

The real surprise has been Iceland on 189. Back when you were in Oregon and you
and I did some coordinated listening, you would report it but I rarely heard it
here in Michigan.

Well now I see now that it seems to show up around 05Z - past my listening
window.  So maybe it was there after all.

Backing up Marc on his observation, I also feel that since those

Re: [IRCA] LWBC tonite

2017-01-17 Thread Sylvain Naud

Hi Marc,

About the 183 frequency, I know that a couple of years ago, the top one
of their four towers collapsed so they have to re-arrange the antenna
array. Based on this article (in German, use a translator)
http://www.saar-nostalgie.de/Europe1Unfall.htm , the power has also been
lowered to 1000 Kw along with a new tower arrangement.

Same result here with a signal decline since then.

In general, this has been the worst year for LWBC since I began monitoring it
in 2002. Former reliable regulars like Poland-225 and Luxembourg-234 have been
rare. Czech Republic-270 not heard this season.

The most reliable this year have been Morocco-171 and Iceland-189 and neither
of them have been consistently strong.

I hope next year is better as I enjoy LWBC DX!

Re: [IRCA] LWBC tonite

2017-01-17 Thread Walter Salmaniw
During my 10 day visit to Masset, I'd check for 189 every night, and I
didn't hear them once. That is unusual. Normally, on an "off season" for
TA activity would have some audio from Iceland on at least half of the
nights. Yes, the TAs were disappointing, with only a weak carrier once or
twice out of 1215. 73, Walt

Re: [IRCA] LWBC tonite plus TA in the northwest

2017-01-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Best that can be done in Victoria BC is weak carriers on 189 and 198
using the ALA100 copper pipe loop.

The north Flag is hearing TA carriers by 0315UT, including 855 1215
1386 1485, and very wispy traces on 1089 and 1512.

best wishes,

[IRCA] LWBC

2014-02-07 Thread Scott
R. France on 162 khz is already nicely audible here in northern Michigan, still
about 20 minutes from Sunset (2245 Z).  183 is also quite copiable.   171 and
216 are weak.  No other longwave broadcasters noted. Maybe this fortells good
conditions in the MW BCB, at least at the low end.

Also thanks to all who messaged me regarding 855 being Spain.

[IRCA] LWBC TA decent tonight

2009-10-03 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Since first check at 0210 utc, TA LWBC has been relatively decent tonight.
Signals fade up and down; at the moment 0342, 171 Morocco is at medium
level, 8, and Perseus says it's solid S9 level. Channels with threshold or
better audio this evening: 153 Algeria, 162 France, 177 Germany, 183
Germany, 189 Iceland, 198 UK, 207 presumed-Germany, 216 France, 225 not sure
who, 234 Luxumbourg, 252 Algeria with middle-eastern music.

MW only a few weak hets, 1134 close to audio at times.

 Steve,

Getting a carrier on 189. At least on LW no HD!

No evidence hereI don't seem to have an
 effective longwave
antennahowever, 1215 has audio traces, and 1377
 is bouncing in
with music, at least briefly..and I'm
 unfortunately on my way out
the door for an hour or two.have fun...
