[IRCA] Multi-section capacitors
Hi everyone, I'm restoring a couple of old Hallicrafters rigs (SW 500 and S-38B) and was wondering how you re stuff the power supply multiple section tubular caps? Someone told me to just eliminate them and solder caps of the proper values in place of them but I want to do it right. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. 73's John Hunter Rossville GA ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] Multi-section capacitors
John... Some multisection capacitors are still available (Antique Electronic Supply, Radio Daze to name two suppliers), so theoretically you could go either way. It really depends on how pure you want it to be. I personally think separate capacitors are easier. Re: [IRCA] Multi-section capacitors
John, I am restoring several S-38's. The 4 section Cap is impossible to find. A. Electronics has a 3 section cap that works for the 160 volt ones. Then use a small 25mfd cap for the output tube. If I get time after work, I can send you the part numbers.. wont be home for a couple hoursDont forget to replace the rest of the PAPER caps...The square MICA ones should be fine. Just finished one up this weekend...I will be happy to help you out all I can.. Restoring these old rigs is alot of fun !! lee Oalca fl John Hunter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi everyone, I'm restoring a couple of old Hallicrafters rigs (SW 500 and S-38B) and was wondering how you re stuff the power supply multiple section tubular caps? So far as I know, multi-section caps are a thing of the past. I have to do that to one of my Hammarlunds, and I've determined that the only reasonable course is to replace the 4-section can with 4 individual caps, and simply connect them into the circuit in place of the can. I don't know what you need but selected multi-section electrolytics are still made including 4 section caps, scroll down this page: http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/perlshop.cgi?ACTION=enterthispage=parts4.htmORDER_ID=!ORDERID! Re: [IRCA] Multi-section capacitors
http://www.radiodaze.com/capsMS.htm Has quite a few 4 section caps to choose from, just scroll down, I've used the JJ two section caps for high powered 300WRMS tube amp power supplys, they are very good.
