Here in Victoria, very weak audio on 1503 and 1593 around 1200UT, no
hope of readability. Music on 1503, so wonder if it really was Radio
Sport this time? No joy on 891 or 1116 here however.

best wishes,

Better for DUs this morning, poorer for 738 which was just a strong het.
Mid band audio quickly fading out and shifting to the high end and
everything faded out early today, all gone by 1210 utc.
891 DU with presumed 4TAB giving horse racing results, poor on peaks
1148 utc.

1116 DU with presumed 4BC talk poor 1150.
1476, 1593 big hets 1151.
1548 DU talk very poor/poor, sometimes a second or two to poor level
1158-1203. 1550 semilocal domestic not on until about 1205 then extreme
splatter wiping out 1548 which had faded by then anyway. Rare for 1548
to produce this amount of audio here.

Similar loggings here, Steve, though perhaps there was more signal
strength on yours?. We're pretty much sharing the grayline between
your location and mine right now. Antenna here is an E-W Flag, so
not as much signal gain as your antenna, but I'm closer to the ocean,
for what it's worth.

My listening is on an SDR recording, and I have little time for
review right now, but 1674 didn't seem to have any ID or pips on the
hour that I heard. I heard your six pips on 1566, with telephone
interview before the hour, and woman giving 10 o'clock time check
after the pips; presumably 3NE, but no ID yet on the recording.

Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday (1674 Philippines?)

2012-06-07 Thread Glenn Hauser
Steve,

The Aussies are reporting three stations on 1674. From the latest Australian DX
News via DXLD:

73, Glenn Hauser

** AUSTRALIA. [X-band logs excerpted] 1611, Vision Radio Network in
Melbourne with UCB news 2020 23/4. (RW) [RW is never identified -- gh]

1629, HRH Newcastle. Old classic songs 40’s and 50’s this 100 watt
station 0850 going well from 130 miles away 4/5 over the The Goanna
station. (C-DX).

1638, The Goanna. This network still going 0937 with ID as “The
Goanna”, C and W songs. 4/5 (C-DX).

1663, 3ME Melbourne. AA music 23/4 1130 (RW).

1674, Vision Radio Network, Brisbane. UCB News with Mike London 0900-
0920 f/out then religious programming, Fair level 4/5 then clobbered
by LION FM faded in over them. (C-DX).

1674, LION FM, Frankston Vic. 0920 Faded in over the top of the Vision
BNE station. 4/5 then an announcement which was a good thing I had 3
other Dxers there to hear the announcement, “LION FM does not
broadcast on the Jewish Sabbath”!!! So they play pop songs! What an
ID! (C-DX).

1674, Surf FM, Frankston Vic. While looking for LION FM! 1045 5/5 ID’s
one of them was “Variety 90’s to now Melbourne’s Surf City sound
1674”. Good level played several songs then an ID that was the
programming. (CDX).

1683, Greek Radio, Revesby NSW. Greek music 1200 23/4 (RW), Robert
this is only 2 miles away from my place in a direct line and gee Con
destroys this part of the band! -ed. John Wright

(C-DX = Cataract Dam DX Pedition, near Appin NSW:

John Sanderson FRG 7 and 50 metres of wire.
Denis Smithson ICOM R71A and 50 metres of wire
David Brown ICOM R75 and 50 metres of wire
June Australian DX News via DXLD)

Again tuning up 1600 kHz 0835-0835 KGST Fresno California, brief nice
ID but then slid back into the mud! I kept tuning the dial to 1674 khz
and heard Vision Radio Network, the new station from Brisbane as it
turns out, heard by John Hagen and then Tony Magon.

Whilst doing a reception report 0900-0920 UT up came pop music on the
same frequency to clobber the Vision religious station. I persisted
and got an ID as LION FM, then the ID as “LION FM does not broadcast
on the Jewish Sabbath”! I thought this lot had gone forever but Surf
radio has shared airtime! Now that was also a surprise! Heard at a
good level, on occasions.

Again we listened to 1674 kHz and got another surprise, 1674 not Lion
FM but was Surf Radio! (CATARACT DAM DXpedition 2012 By John Wright,
starting Friday 4th May, June Australian DX News via DXLD)

No MW reception this morning but didn't check until very late, past 1415

when last one went away. 153 had strong TOH pips at 1500 then apparently
went off. Had audio on it, 189 poorer and 279 had faded up for a minute or
two again at 1454 then gone again. Maybe they all go off at 1500 as nothing
more heard again. 180 signs off at 1300, but it seemed that 171 signed on at

All Down Under today with only a couple with audio. Only 891 peaked at a

855 DU talk, very poor 1350
891 5AN with praise song Allelulia (not Handel Messiah), poor 1344; 1351
peak at weak/medium (7.5-8) with interview; 4TAB racing poor underneath. All

1116 4BC talk, very poor/poor 1355.

presumed or confirmed Down Under for any with audio.
Audio: 1575 too poor to recognize language at 1328 utc; 1548 very poor/poor

With all this DU activity I need to try for them myself. I had Tahiti here
about 5 years ago a couple of times weakly in French and also pulled audio
out of 1098 Marshalls a couple times (need to get lucky and find them on a
bit late). Last season 702 was at threshold audio levels once..ie could tell
it was a muffled male voice but not good enough to tell lang.

Anyhow when the T-storms go away I'll see if a 350 ft BOG aimed about 245
deg is quiet enough..ie not much house noise as will be close to it.

My long BOGs at 273 deg are likely aimed a bit too far north for NZ/Tahiti
noting that they seem better for WA/OR/BC and but don't get KNX from LA as
often as the shorter ones (slightly wider beam) aimed the same way did.

My place up north in WI is better for DU as it is deathly quiet and I can
run longer wires at them. I scored 702 // 738 there a couple seasons ago and
had a few other hets.

Anyhow..others sb trying for Tahiti as it seems they've improved modulation
or tx.

Nice stuff Steve. New to this list - spend most of my time on 160 meters, but
like to listen down in the AM band from time to time. Over the years, have
logged at least one station every 10 kHz from two QTHs (SoCal and Oregon).

Can you explain those numbers for Radio Rossii?

Thanks.

531 (7) DU talk at 12:20
612: Brisbane with an 8 signal at 12:17, and still a 6 to 7 at 12:30
621 (6)
639 7 to 8 signal very strong today with Islands music at 11:48. Perhaps
DU later?

774 DU talk at 12:23, seems // to 738 at 12:23 (7)

As I type this 639 is on in the background (Perseus recording at 11:49) with a

2008-06-18 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Walt,

Your DUs have been meager, but mine have been nonexistent! For the last
three mornings since revising my
rotating Wellbrook ALA100 to 13.5 X 8.5 feet, I've been chasing DUs. I've
oriented the loop right at 235 degrees
bearing, which splits the difference between Australia and New Zealand from
here.

Unfortunately I haven't even found any hets after recording with Perseus
between 1100-1230 UTC. Maybe I will
record between 1800 - 1600 kHz the next few days, to reach any high band
stations that might be struggling to
rise above the splatter. My recording and DXing has been from 530 kHz to
1330 kHz only, since the antenna
revisions. (And as you know, Perseus can't *yet* record the entire MW band.)

Signal strengths are quite improved (6 - 10 dB) over the prior smaller
version of the loop, and that smaller size has
done pretty well at catching TPs when conditions are right. However, the
signal path is over more land mass to the
SW of me compared to the NW.

Well, determined to start the early morning process, I went to bed extra
early last night and got up to listen
between 11:45 and 12:20. Since I didn't have anything to compare to, I'll
have to rely on Steve and the early
morning gang for comparisons. A smattering of weak audios here in
Victoria. Lots of weak hets. For me, the best
performers were in the upper half of the band.

792 4RN up to 7 at times
963 a 6
1098 reasonably strong OC
1116 a 6
1386 a 6, especially around 12:13
1503 6 to 7, ?Radio Sport
1512 6 ?ABC
Almost audios: 855, 567, 738, 819, 1008, 1332, 1476, and 1701.

Relatively meager compared to what I'm used to in the Fall, and on the
Queen Charlottes. I'll be very interested in
Nick's and John's observationsWalt.

DUs have not been much here during the early mornings as I go to bed
around 0900-1000 UTC most nights. Even the regulars like Tonga-1017
Tahiti-738 have been poor this Summer. Nothing like 25 years ago.
Regularly I would listen to Fiji 891 (gone now) and Tonga-1017 at
armchair copy. The BBC News on Tonga was a regular feature for me. Gone
are those days for a long time. Hopefuly those cx will return someday.

Hi, Guy. I'm not able to compare to other mornings, being my first kick at the
cat. I was inspired by how well John Bryant has done on Orcas. Judging from
last Fall, I was hearing the DU stations better than he was (he far outperforms
me in the Asia department, though!). That said, I thought I should give it a
whirl.
Now A/K indices have been quite poor for a few days, so perhaps when things
settle down, we'll be able to expect more. PNG and the 120m band Aussies
were very well heard this morning, by the way, so you might try those
too...Walt.

[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday, better for DU

2008-06-11 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Better for DU audio today. 891 the first DU to appear, and earlier than
usual too, 1139 utc both stations, swapping back and forth as one would rise
above the other, rising to weak levels for both stations. Different
announcer today with the horse racing format, not quite as fast-talking.
Then the other station would fade up with talk and music, at one point
playing My Favorite Things vocal. 891 lasted with audio pretty much the
whole time until fadeout around 1225 utc.

1116 next to be heard, 1152 utc, poor/weak level with DU talk.
738 with DU talk, very poor/poor level, 1155 utc.
1737 KUT,PNG beacon very poor/poor level in USB mode, off and on, first
noted at 1149 utc.

LWBC not as good today. 180 poor, 279 very poor, 1114 utc.
