Here in Victoria, very weak audio on 1503 and 1593 around 1200UT, no hope of readability. Music on 1503, so wonder if it really was Radio Sport this time? Steve, The Aussies are reporting three stations on 1674. From the latest Australian DX News via DXLD: 73, Glenn Hauser ** AUSTRALIA. [X-band logs excerpted] 1611, Vision Radio Network in Melbourne with UCB news 2020 23/4. (RW) [RW is never identified -- gh] 1629, HRH Newcastle. Old classic songs 40’s and 50’s this 100 watt station 0850 going well from 130 miles away 4/5 over the The Goanna station. (C-DX). 1638, The Goanna. This network still going 0937 with ID as “The Goanna”, C and W songs. 4/5 (C-DX). 1663, 3ME Melbourne. AA music 23/4 1130 (RW). 1674, Vision Radio Network, Brisbane. UCB News with Mike London 0900- 0920 f/out then religious programming, Fair level 4/5 then clobbered by LION FM faded in over them. (C-DX). 1674, LION FM, Frankston Vic. 0920 Faded in over the top of the Vision BNE station. 4/5 then an announcement which was a good thing I had 3 other Dxers there to hear the announcement, “LION FM does not broadcast on the Jewish Sabbath”!!! So they play pop songs! What an ID! (C-DX). 1674, Surf FM, Frankston Vic. While looking for LION FM! 1045 5/5 ID’s one of them was “Variety 90’s to now Melbourne’s Surf City sound 1674”. Good level played several songs then an ID that was the programming. (CDX). 1683, Greek Radio, Revesby NSW. I kept tuning the dial to 1674 khz and heard Vision Radio Network, the new station from Brisbane as it turns out, heard by John Hagen and then Tony Magon. Whilst doing a reception report 0900-0920 UT up came pop music on the same frequency to clobber the Vision religious station. I persisted and got an ID as LION FM, then the ID as “LION FM does not broadcast on the Jewish Sabbath”! I thought this lot had gone forever but Surf radio has shared airtime! Now that was also a surprise! Heard at a good level, on occasions. Again we listened to 1674 kHz and got another surprise, 1674 not Lion FM but was Surf Radio! Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday; also Victoria, BC
Similar loggings here, Steve, though perhaps there was more signal strength on yours?. We're pretty much sharing the grayline between your location and mine right now. Antenna here is an E-W Flag, so not as much signal gain as your antenna, but I'm closer to the ocean, for what it's worth. My listening is on an SDR recording, and I have little time for review right now, but 1674 didn't seem to have any ID or pips on the hour that I heard. I heard your six pips on 1566, with telephone interview before the hour, and woman giving 10 o'clock time check after the pips; presumably 3NE, but no ID yet on the recording. best wishes, Nick At 12:52 06-06-12, you wrote: MW high band was unusually good for Down Under reception this morning. Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday (1674 Philippines?)
Steve: There's a brand new Australian on 1674 - Lion Radio in Melbourne. I don't know their programming, but they are said to be "Jewish radio" which may or may not have R&R. From memory, I am not sure if this is a replacement for Vision Radio or not. The Filipino is a real long shot in my mind. I don't think it has been heard at Grayland but again I'm operating from memory. It also has a listed signoff of 1130. No MW reception this morning but didn't check until very late, past 1415 utc. Still lots of hets. But LW unusually good for Rosii today. Audio: 1575 too poor to recognize language at 1328 utc; 1548 very poor/poor DU talk in usual heavy 1550 splatter; 1413 big het (unusual); 1206 very poor talk, no language; 1179 very poor talk, no language; 1152 big het (unusual); 891 5AN "ABC Adelaide" rising to weak/medium for awhile 1334 utc; 792 weak, jazz presumed DU; 774 weak DU talk; 738 poor/weak DU talk; 621 poor/weak at first, with jazz piano trio, rose to weak/medium for several minutes, full capture of the channel, very best I've ever heard audio on 621, peaking 1342 utc.; 1116 DU talk; 774 still good along with 891, 891 last to fade out as usual, just before 1400 utc. LWBC very poor today, 234, 279 doing the best on a brief check 1238 utc. All Down Under for MW though not as good as past several days. 891 by far the best, as usual, but better than usual today. Alternating between the horse race station and 5AN. Heavy static today obscured signals. LWBC 153,180,189,234,279 fair at times, good het on 171 and 164 but no audio on frequent checks. DU MW TP at the end of the LF beacon session, many low-band hets. I haven't been checking much in the morning lately; conditions have been exceptionally poor lately whenever I did check. But this morning I woke up somewhat earlier than usual and did a check. LWBC Radio Rossii doing better, and best of all, 164 Mongolia was at poor level, at 1235 utc. 15 minutes later, 209 Mongolia was very poor/poor. Probably very good MW TP reception for the west coast folks, as I had MW hets everywhere, top to bottom, with good audio on 1566 HLAZ plus new 1413 and 1422, Asian audio. 774 weak, 648 poor/weak with cello solo, 531 Asian, all 1445-1450. 774 still audio at 1508 utc. 164 Mongolia poor with pleasant Asian instrumental music up to 1455 utc then man speaking, into national anthem from 1458-1500 then sign off, like yesterday. It seemed like conditions were very good for TPs today despite the very high static even on MW. And I woke up an hour late but 209 Mongolia was still doing well, even with the high static especially at LF. Even when the static from midwest storms died off the band was still noisy everywhere. I can't tell one Asian language from another, so I just list "Asian" for audio I hear. I don't get enough practice hearing languages to be able to learn to tell one from another. Some like the English lessons are obviously from Japan so I list that as Japan. 531 poor Asian 1326 utc; 558 poor Asian; 567 weak Asian; 594 weak/medium Asian; 612 very poor Asian; 639 very poor/poor Asian; 657 very poor/poor off-freq Asian; 666 very poor/poor Asian; 693 poor Asian; 738 very poor/poor Asian; 774 poor/weak Asian; 792 poor Asian music 1332; 828 weak JJ with EE lessons; 891 poor Asian; 1116 poor DU 1335; 1566 HLAZ weak/medium 1337; 891 poor DU now; 774 JJ up to medium with EE lesson 1342; 594 weak/medium Asian 1344; 567 poor/weak Asian; 774 finally faded 1349; 891 continues poor DU fading 1358. Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday
With all this DU activity I need to try for them myself. I had Tahiti here about 5 years ago a couple of times weakly in French and also pulled audio out of 1098 Marshalls a couple times (need to get lucky and find them on a bit late). Last season 702 was at threshold audio levels once..ie could tell it was a muffled male voice but not good enough to tell lang. Anyhow when the T-storms go away I'll see if a 350 ft BOG aimed about 245 deg is quiet enough..ie not much house noise as will be close to it. My long BOGs at 273 deg are likely aimed a bit too far north for NZ/Tahiti noting that they seem better for WA/OR/BC and but don't get KNX from LA as often as the shorter ones (slightly wider beam) aimed the same way did. My place up north in WI is better for DU as it is deathly quiet and I can run longer wires at them. I scored 702 // 738 there a couple seasons ago and had a few other hets. Anyhow..others sb trying for Tahiti as it seems they've improved modulation or tx. 73 KAZ Barrington IL - Original Message - From: "Steve Ratzlaff" To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Sent: Wednesday, August 19, 2009 8:32 AM Subject: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Wednesday This was probably the best TP morning here this year for low band MW signals. Signals seemed to be poorer today until the end when Japan was very good on 774. At 1350 utc it was a solid 8 for a minute or so, then continued at 6-7 for the next 15 minutes. DUs have not been much here during the early mornings as I go to bed around 0900-1000 UTC most nights. Even the regulars like Tonga-1017 & Tahiti-738 have been poor this Summer. Nothing like 25 years ago. Regularly I would listen to Fiji 891 (gone now) and Tonga-1017 at armchair copy. The BBC News on Tonga was a regular feature for me. Gone are those days for a long time. Hi Walt, Your DUs have been "meager", but mine have been nonexistent! For the last three mornings since revising my rotating Wellbrook ALA100 to 13.5 X 8.5 feet, I've been chasing DUs. I've oriented the loop right at 235 degrees bearing, which splits the difference between Australia and New Zealand from here. Unfortunately I haven't even found any hets after recording with Perseus between 1100-1230 UTC. Maybe I will record between 1800 - 1600 kHz the next few days, to reach any high band stations that might be struggling to rise above the splatter. My recording and DXing has been from 530 kHz to 1330 kHz only, since the antenna revisions. (And as you know, Perseus can't *yet* record the entire MW band.) Signal strengths are quite improved (6 - 10 dB) over the prior smaller version of the loop, and that smaller size has done pretty well at catching TPs when conditions are right. However, the signal path is over more land mass to the SW of me compared to the NW. Far East Russian LWBC not great this morning, definitely nothing from Mongolia (faint het on 164, nothing on 209). 279, 234, 189, 180, 153 poor/medium with 153 doing the best when I checked at 1212 utc--all with Simon and Garfunkel's song "Mrs. Robinson". MW doing poorly at the same early check; lots of hets, no audio. Much later, mixed JJ and DU audio. 567 weak, man in foreign language 1325 utc; 738 two stations, poor/weak, DU talk; 774 weak mix of JJ and DU; 828 poor talk; 855 weak DU talk; 891 weak DU talk; big het on 792 at 1340 utc and the usual big het on 1098. 1725 GA, PNG poor and 1737 KUT, PNG weak, beacons, 1316 utc. Pacific LF reception was very good again, so didn't get to MW until late except 1548 had a few seconds of medium-level audio with woman in English at 1206 utc. Later DU audio from 1323-1335 utc: 549 weak with music; 576 poor/weak with music; 702 weak with talk; 738 and 828 both weak/medium with talk; 891 weak with talk; 1116 weak with talk. 1332 medium het. Russian LWBC good on 279, 234, 189, 180, 153 at 1200 utc. LF Pacific NDB conditions were so good this morning I didn't check for MW signals until the very end, when 738, 774, and 828 were still giving weak DU audio, 1321 utc. 738 still with poor audio at 1335 utc for the last to fade away. Russian LWBC decent at 1215 utc with 279 and 180. 1737 KUT, PNG beacon good level at 1218 utc along with 1725 GA, PNG beacon. (My Monitoring Times magazine just came in the mail yesterday, with the great cover article on John Bryant's Easter Island DXpedition.) Pacific conditions were good this morning so I didn't get to MW until just the end of the session when the LF beacons had faded away and the MW DU's were still doing well. 531, 576, 612, 738, 828 with poor to weak English/Aussie talk, 1256-1312 utc, with hets still being heard even past 1312 utc. Good het on 1503 at 1305 utc. Russian LWBC doing well earlier, 279, 234, 189, 180, 153--1205 utc. I too appreciated Pat's great Pacific report, even though I just get snippets of what he hears.
