Re: [IRCA] NW Radio questions
Yes, I have heard such things too. I have no idea what kind of tx KZIZ has, if it will run more than the specified 5 KW, but the station was very strong and totally dominant. I normally get Burbank WA on 1560 days off the Eastern Beverage, but at that time, there was no sign of them, just a strong KZIZ. I never compared, but the signal probably rivaled something like KELA 1470 and KELA is only 65 air miles away. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] NW Radio questions
Hi Patrick, Or something else (I'm not making any accusations here.) For exampel, I remember one summer day in 1968 when 500- or 1,000-watt KLAN-1320 in Lemoore, CA sounded every bit as strong as 5,000-watt KCOK in Tulare from my Bakersfield CA QTH. Normally they had 25 percent of KCOK's signal strength. I presumed that they were unintentionally exceeding their authorized power. I never heard them that strong again, unfortunately; I enjoyed the station, so it was a pleasure hearing such a good signal that day. I was hoping they'd had a power increase, but it only occurred for a few hours. -- Rick - Original Message - From: "Patrick Martin" To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Cc: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Sent: Saturday, August 17, 2013 9:51 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] NW Radio questions Rick, >>After seeing your post, I checked KZIZ later yesterday afternoon here in northeast Seattle and their signal was weak as usual. They were a powerhouse totally dominating 1560 like they were 50 miles away or less. This morning, I noticed the usual Burbank WA off the Eastern Beverage and a weak KZIZ off the NE EWE. Very wishful thinking. Both of their stations in California are running it. Re: [IRCA] NW Radio questions
KUOW-1340 not noted with IBOC while driving around Olympia a few days ago.It seems to come and go. I also noted KZIZ stronger over there but do not know what that's about. It is a local here at home. KHHO-850's IBOC is also off now and has been for a while. A pleasant change. Can't comment on KZIZ, but I'm not seeing any IBOC from 1340 at 01:00 UTC. Not sure whether this is normal for Victoria at this time, though. 73,Walt On Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 7:05 PM, Patrick Martin wrote: > Hi everyone, > > In tuning across the dial this morning, checking out the antennas, I > noticed two things. > > First KZIZ 1560 is much much stronger than I ever have heard them. [IRCA] NW Radio questions
Hi everyone, In tuning across the dial this morning, checking out the antennas, I noticed two things. First KZIZ 1560 is much much stronger than I ever have heard them. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the increase in signal? Second, I did not notice any IBOC hash on 1350 from KUOW 1340. The 1340/1320 hash is still there from KKPZ 1330, though. Has KUOW shut off the IBOC, or is it temporary, or conditions? KUOW 1340 is not all that strong here at 80 air miles, but I used to notice their IBOC, especially off the NE EWE.
