I don't really care where they are. Perhaps they don't know where they
are, as they ID as Gastonia and Barries list has them in Gastonia.

Barry's list appears to have some outdated data in it. The station moved
from Gastonia to Pineville (Charlotte) in 2005. (It changed calls at the
same time, from WLTC to WGIV.) The old WLTC tower, which was in the
parking lot of a shopping mall in Gastonia, is gone. The new site is off
Tryon Street just south of downtown Charlotte.

It was a move of 20 miles or so from the old site to the new site. Some
might count it as a new station as a result.

(Me, I'd be happy to hear them running their proper night power from
either location - there's too much going on at night on 1370 that
shouldn't be there, as we hear every time we drop carrier on WXXI to
check...)

They moved the COL from Gastonia to Pineville in 2005, per Wikipedia.
My old 1990 NRC logbook still has the old WLTC calls, Gastonia COL and 5
Kw day power.

BARRY: Your site still shows Gastonia as the COL.

BTW Joe and Rob: I have WGIV in my ULR logbook, too. :)

They are 16KW Day and licensed to Pineville, which is a southern Suburb

[IRCA] New logging on 1370

2009-10-26 Thread Joseph Miller
On the way home from work tonight, I heard a very different station on 1370.

Sounded like several mentions of urban talk including sports, news, and some
religion, and a station ID that was a little difficult to copy but sounded like
WDIC. Then they ran an ad for a concert at the Bojangles Coliseum. Did my web
search, and discovered said building is in Charlotte North Carolina. Thus I was
able to pinpoint the following:

WGIV, 1370, Pineville, NC, 26 Oct 2009, 2300 (UTC or 7:00 pm local), with a
fair but copyable signal and no sign of WSPD or WXXI. Quite sure this new.
Logbooks are on the other computer.

P.S. Rob, do you have this in your ULR log???

[IRCA] new logging on 1370

2009-10-22 Thread Joseph Miller

First, I tried again to pull in WXXI, and at 6:29 pm local time (Wednesday Oct.
21) I heard news that had that NPR feel to it, with thanks to several sponsors,
the name Renee Montagne (spelling???), and finally the WXXI station ID right
at 6:30. Not new, but infrequent, and first time at sunset.

This morning at 8:00 am, while the car radio was still on the same frequency, I
heard some talk radio, and at TOH was station ID WGOH. Turns out, they are a
5KW daytime station in Grayson KY, with a bearing of 176.9° and distance of 300
miles (approx). I'll have to check my logbook, but I'm quite sure this is new.

Lastly, someone is running a mystery station, as I have heard some popular
music, so I'll go back again tonight, and try again.

[IRCA] new logging on 1370

2008-12-17 Thread kj8o

Heard tonight...

KDTH, 1370, Dubuque IA. 12/18/08 11:45 PM EDT (10:45 their local time).
Nostalgic music, local ads several mentions of Dubuque, then station ID.
#412, IA#9, 1370#5. This may explaing the music that I've been hearing at 7-
7:30 in the morning. Very happy with this logging.
