[IRCA] New loggings

2017-10-24 Thread Stan Horzepa

New loggings, Monday evening...

2300Z on 94.1 MHz, W231DJ in Danbury, Connecticut, transmitting 90 W
about 30 miles to the southwest. This is WLAD's translator.

0355Z on 684 kHz, RNE Radio Nacional in Dos Hermanas, Spain. Mostly talk
with some short musical interludes. Transmitting 600 kW about 3500 miles
to the east-northeast. By far, this was the strongest transatlantic
signal I have heard in a long time on MW or LW.

0400Z on 1570 kHz, WISP in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, transmitting 900 W
about 150 miles to the southwest. Heard the top of the hour ID.

Equipment here: ELAD FDM-S2/SW2, ICOM AH-7000 discone (FM), 80-meter
inverted Vee (LW/MW)

I hope some new antennas going up real soon now will null WJR and give
me a better shot to the south.

When I got to 760 kHz, there was WJR loud and clear as expected. WJR is
the only nighttime station I have in the log for 760. It is so dominant,
that I never expect to hear anything else. So I listened for their
station ID, which was followed by a pause and during the pause, I heard
the station ID for WETR in Knoxville, Tennessee transmitting 2.4 kW 703
miles to the southwest! WETR is a daytime-only station and this logging
was almost an hour after Knoxville sunset, but I'm not complaining!

Equipment used was the ELAD FDM-S2/SW2 receiver and an 80-meter inverted
Vee antenna.

[IRCA] new loggings

2017-10-10 Thread Stan Horzepa

LW/MW/AM band conditions were very good last night.

On LW, there were a slew of navigational beacons – all Canadian and all
already in the log. But I did log a new broadcast station on 234 kHz at
0255 UTC: Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) in Beidweiler, Luxembourg,
transmitting 1500 kW about 3,686 miles to the northeast. The audio was
weak, but good enough to ID the station.

On MW/AM, I heard plenty, but all already in the log. So I replayed my
UTC top-of-the-hour recording and worked my way up the band
recording any station identifications I encountered.

When I got to 760 kHz, there was WJR loud and clear as expected. WJR is
the only nighttime station I have in the log for 760. It is so dominant,

[IRCA] New Loggings

2014-01-10 Thread David Faulkner
Hi All:

For the first time in I don't know how long I actually logged two new stations
this evening;

1250  KYYS  KS  Kansas City on top w/nice "La X Superstation" slogan & Mexican
music on top in WTMA null. I've wanted this one for a long time and wonder if I
haven't been trying for them too late in the evening. Do they reduce power
during critical hours?

1290  WZTI  WI Greenfield well u/WHKY/WHIO & others but clear, "Milwaukee's
oldies 1290," slogan at 1700. No calls heard but definitely two here playing
oldies. Had a great signal out of WSSP-1250, so thought I'd try for this one &
there they were.

Yup, 1450 with a 413 area code would be WMAS-AM Springfield, MA.

Could your 1450 be WENJ Atlantic CIty, NJ. Their FM sister runs ESPN in

Re: [IRCA] New loggings

2009-06-20 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
WGHC is in fact a NEW station. When 1370 was moved to 870 in Mount
Holly/Charlotte, NC Art Sutton filed for a new AM on 1400 and used the same
calls.

And knowing that WGAP is owned by Horne Radio, I'm not surprised it's been
broadcasting dead air for 3 days. Reportedly, their AM stations are nothing
but computers at the transmitter site. One of their AMs lost a tower and
remained on the air for 2 days before anyone noticed. Says alot about their
operations, huh/

[IRCA] New loggings to close out August

2008-09-02 Thread HASCALL, DAVID CIV DFAS
I was looking for reports on Gustav and stations on with Emergency info
over the weekend and caught an ID from WTKS Savannah, GA. I did not
hear any hurricane info but suspect that they were on their ND day
pattern as the night patterns sends zilch, this way. In fact, most of
their night signal goes out to sea.

Also WAIK 1590 Galesburg, IL is now officially in my logbook as I heard
them again on Friday nite with HSFB (no ID but it was their local teams)
and caught an actual "ESPN Radio on WAIK" ID at 0500 EDT, Sunday
morning.

1290 WTKS SAVANNAH GA 8/31/08 2208 ID and local ads. On day pattern?

[IRCA] New Loggings Today

2008-01-26 Thread David Faulkner
Hi All:

Interesting cx, both this morning and during early and later
sunset skip. Here's the recent stuff.

580 WIBW KSTopeka 10/24, 2306 w/ID & what sounded like local
nx in WCHS null, no sign of the usual WELO, good sigs. Much wanted. My
first KS outside of KC. Probably had 30 Kansans in Port Huron!

1270 WTJZVANewport News heard just as I landed on the
frequency w/"1270, WTJZ" ID on top, some black gospel mx noted as well.
Very good & a real surprise. VA #96.

1300 WKZN PAWest Hazleton 1/26, 0900 w/"WILK" ID. Not new but
the first time heard on SRS.

1330 WJSS MD Havre de Grace w/inspirational instrumental mx
(slow, quiet), TOH ID by Dr. Laura, "You're listening to WJSS, 1330.." Into
more of the same mx so I left the channel for 1270. WYPC, Wellston, has
been off all week & this is the first thing I've heard thru the WOUB-1340
slop. WOUB seems unusually strong, messing with WCHI more than usual.
Makes me wonder if WYPC is off for good. WYPC is owned by a company that
also owns the FM's in Jackson (96.7), Wellston (97.7) and McArthur (98.7).
WYPC will probably be back, though. Bad weather, especially high winds,
seem to cause trouble for it andd this will be its third silent period in
the last four years.

1600 WXVIALMontgomery on top 1/26, 1706 w/black gospel mx &
promo featuring a listener telling how much a certain song blesses her,
followed by an ID. Good, consistant signal.

Guess that's all for now.

73's

[IRCA] New Loggings

2007-11-18 Thread David Faulkner
Hi Group:

A few new catches here the last three days, including a couple surprises.

 950 WPEN PA Philadelphia 11/16/07, 1540 w/what sounded like a
"Sportsradio 950, WPEN" ID in the WVTS null. Much wanted here.

1150 KCPS IA Burlington 11/18/07, 1830 fair-good w/Chicago Bears game, ID
going into commercial; "Where are you Going? We're already there, KCPS. By
the way, who would be carrying the NASCAR race heere?

1420 WCOJ PA Coatesville 11/16/07, 1531 w/talk show, weather giving ID,
then Napa ad w, "Tell them you heard it on WCOJ." This one much wanted and
often tried for but always buried by Warrensburg SS. Conditions very lively
very early.

1550 WNTN MA Newton 11/16/ 1630 had left radio tuned to 1550 & turned off
when I left the room. When I returned, I turned radio on to hear, "WNTN now
concludes its broadcast day. WNTN, 1550." And that was all. Very good
signals. Only MA # 2 here; perhaps I've been trying at the wrong times.
