Not to say that there isn't Spanish on the station, but Basque more likely. Saul - Basque has no relationship to French as it is not a Latin language. In Spain, the origin of the Basques was a subject of occasional discussion. The most accepted theories (at least amongst my acquaintances in Madrid and Wikipedia) is that Basque has some linguistic roots in common with languages of the Caucasus and possibly with early European languas that pre-date the Indo-European languages now spoken. There is no clear consensus and no one seems to have conclusive proof, which tells you how old a language Basque is. Basque is considered a linguistic isolate. That is, it's not related to any other language. Two of the best known isolates are Japanese and Korean. Now that I'm home, I can see that the Finnish link to Basque is iffy now, but that there is some sort of connection to a Caucasian language group that predates the expansion of Romance language in Europe. In any event, it ain't a Spanish or French variant!
