Re: [IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 7-6 (Preliminary)

2016-07-07 Thread Tony Ward
I haven’t seen the original shot in many years Chuck, but it was not too fancy
— I used my mother’s Box Brownie! Here’s the location at Opapa/Te Aute…
39d 05m 53s South
177d 57m 10s East

The dipole is strung between the two towers which are aligned E/W. Ground
conductivity is outstanding on the Hawkes Bay Lowlands and takeoff to the
Oregon cliffs would be over the farmland and Lake Poukawa. I took several
shots, though the dipole is not easy to see and was surprised and excited to
come by them 65 years after first imaging the, right alongside the Main Road —
and to find the scene so little different really! Hope to post the images soon,
or send me your preferred email and I will send direct.

Re: [IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 7-6 (Preliminary)

2016-07-06 Thread Tony Ward
Great going Gary, and thanks Chuck, The timeline for any change is of the order
of months probably, and perhaps resisted by Rhema. I have been to the site
twice now. My late brother Chris who passed away in December was Scientist for
DOC based in Gisborne and we visited the area for its fascinating Geology
several times and wonderful coastal landforms (among my own research
interests). from Feb - June we were in NZ, and travelled 12000 km in both (but
mainly South) Island, but it has been too hectic since our return to report so
far.

Rhema’s single mast is easily enough visible on Google Earth’s (current) 2011
imagery at 39d05m53-2s South, 177d 57m 10S east, and overlooks the sea from an
elevation of about 88 metres. It gets out a lot better than Ngati Poru radio I
can tell you. 531 from Auckland, now on the Henderson antenna site with many
other stations, two masts, gets out very well throughout NZ. I will get
organized and post some antenna images. Delighted to find Radio National Napier
still using the old flat-top (dipole) I remember photographing as a kid about
65 years ago…

Tony and Chuck,

684-Rhema sounded pretty healthy this morning around 1231 with its Christian
contemporary music // 594 (during the onset of a Kiwi propagation surge). It
usually struggles to get out of the San Francisco splatter (KNBR is a daytimer
at the cliff). I think most of the DU-DXers have logged this several times, and
Rhema Media is always on the hunt for more frequencies.

[IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 7-6 (Preliminary)

2016-07-06 Thread d1028gary
This morning's "Cliffhanger DX" session was one of those bizarre events that
started off sounding pretty mediocre but suddenly shifted into awesome Kiwi
propagation. As late as 1230 only the NZ big guns were managing any energy, but
a dramatic surge in Kiwi propagation kicked in around that time to bring
obscure signals on 576, 585 and 936 up out of the noise, and boost several big
gun Kiwis into legendary strength. Unfortunately the stark turnaround happened
pretty late in the session, probably leaving quite a few exceptional signals
unnoticed before a general propagation collapse around 1300.

Full details and MP3's will be posted later.
