[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-3... Better

2009-11-03 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

This morning the sunrise enhancement (1415-1500) here didn't bring anything
new, but the signal levels were better than yesterday, and some
interesting stations were heard. Although not near the peak October levels, it
was
the best day so far in November here.

891 kHz had a nice mix of a presumed Thailand and NHK1 at 1440, and 603 kHz
had HLSA mixing with the UnID Chinese at 1443. Around 1446 the 594 kHz
frequency changed from a solid JOAK talk program to a mix with the Korean-pop
music HLS1, and for a very brief time at 1448 the UnID Chinese was also
heard together with these two, down in the noise. This was the first time all
season that 594-JOAK was heard with both co-channels at the same time.

A quick scramble to search for weak Chinese co-channels on 774 and 828 kHz
(reported by Nick recently) proved fruitless, however, and checks of 549,
648 and 711kHz (a very tough frequency here, with KIRO splatter) at peak
dawn enhancement (around 1450) did not come up with anything. Despite the
action on 594 kHz, 585 had nothing but a weak NHK1 JOPG at 1458, and the
Korean reported by Nick on 567 did not even register as a weak carrier here
(not
surprising, with the semi-local 570-KVI splattering away).

So even though no new TP's were received, it was an interesting morning on
the experimental 9' box loop, and much better than the moribund conditions
of yesterday. Hopefully John, Nick and Bruce were able to hear some nice
DX also.

Sorry Gary, looks like both John and I bowed out this morning. I had to get
ready for work early, so just "stopped by" a couple of times around sunrise, but
my impression was that conditions were better than the last couple of days.
There seemed to be more upper band signals, and quite good signals found at
random on 621 and 918 (both Chinese, the latter with echoing transmitters), 576
Mayak, and 603 Korea, plus Taiwan Fisheries on 1143//738. I left the SDR-14
running for 1500UT, so perhaps that will yield something this evening.

best wishes,

Nick
