Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-30
Hi Chris, Thanks for your comments on the Korean TP's, and any corrections on the station locations. I'm sure that you are far more knowledgeable about these stations and transmitters than any of us (who have been stuck here on this side of the big pond). When Asian conditions are really good 603-HLSA (Happy FM/ KBS2 program) mixes with a Chinese station presumed to be in Hulun Buir, and there was a little of that this morning. When those two TP's really pound in they can create a very nasty snarl on the frequency, and either one can end up on top. I might add that the host of the KBS2 long-set music program this morning around 1530 was apparently the same deep-voiced male that had the job from 2013-2016, instead of the sweet-voiced female that seemed to replace him early last year. 657-Pyongyang B.S. is far and away the most powerful MW signal from the North here on the west coast, and it shows up routinely when conditions are good. Unfortunately decent programming doesn't seem to be its strong point. 972-HLCA rivals 1566-HLAZ as the strongest signal from the South here, and I've often enjoyed listening to its Korean oldie music (along with the KBS2 program on 603-HLSA). Maybe it's because I fit the station's targeted age group? :-) Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) - Original Message - From: "Chris Kadlec" <beagleb...@beaglebass.com> To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Monday, January 30, 2017 2:59:32 PM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-30 Nice audio!! [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-30
Hello All, High band Asian signals on 1503, 1566, 1575 and 1593 were the main attraction this morning, getting a fair boost from sunrise enhancement from 1515-1535. Low band TP's generally followed yesterday's pattern, however, as several promising signals seemed to fizzle with the daylight. At my 1430 start time 594-JOAK, 603-HLSA and 972-HLCA were once again in and out with fair peaks, although they couldn't seem to build up any sustained strength. On the high band 1566-HLAZ was already at a good level, while 1377, 1503, 1575 and 1593 had intermittent audio in the darkness. Increasing daylight around 1510 saw the low band TP's slide into the noise for the most part, although both 594 and 603 had a few fair audio peaks again around 1530. Almost all the sunrise enhancement action was on the high band, with 1503 (JOUK?) reaching fair peaks from 1515-1530, as well as 1566-HLAZ (good), 1575-VOA (fair) and a mix of CNR1 (dominant) and NHK2 on 1593. The identity of the signal on 1503 was uncertain; at times the speech sounded like something other than Japanese, but with rapid fades (and 594 on the skids) there was no way to be certain. Best Asian signal of the morning was from 1566-HLAZ around 1525, reaching good levels in and out with a Chinese male sermon during its Christian program. 1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-30
Hello All, What seemed like a promising band at 1500 here didn't really manage much improvement during sunrise enhancement, and the low-band Asians failed to repeat their vibrant performance of yesterday. The high-band regulars did quite well, though, as 1566-HLAZ led the way at 1530 with excellent-level Chinese speech. Around 1500 both 594-JOAK and 603-HLSA had fair audio in and out (like yesterday), and 603 had occasional female Chinese speech as well. Unlike yesterday, though, none of these signals received any boost around sunrise, and the other low-band Asian mainland stations on 639, 648 and 657 stayed in the noise. The high band Asians did receive a moderate sunrise boost around 1520, though, with 1503-JOUK (fair), 1566-HLAZ (excellent), 1575-VOA (good) and 1593-CNR1 (very good) hitting their peaks shortly afterwards. As usual these high-band regulars faded in and out in short cycles, unlike the slower-cycle fades on stations like 594-JOAK and 603-HLSA. The low-band signals bailed early around 1535, leaving only the usual high-band diehards of 1566-HLAZ and 1593-CNR1 with any Asian audio. 1593-CNR1 had a pretty impressive signal this morning around 1535 in the 1590-Seattle splatter, but nothing close to its legendary fade-in on January 18th. Overall the band was fairly average for mi! d-winter, with the high band enjoying its normal propagation edge. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) C.Crane SWP 7.5 Slider loopstick Ultralight + 12 Medium Wave FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Hello All, Despite some promising carriers around 1410 UTC (on 594, 828 and 972), mediocre audio from several Asian big guns was finally the only sign of TP life this morning. During a lackluster sunrise enhancement 972-HLCA came up to fair audio around 1535, 1566-HLAZ managed poor-fair audio at 1540, and 1575-VOA came up to fair audio at 1530. Despite improving solar conditions the band still seems to be stuck in the depressed mode. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) C.Crane SWP 7.5 Slider loopstick Ultralight + 8 Medium Wave FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
