[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-4

2014-10-04 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,

Asian results here this morning seemed somewhat better than Bruce's version,
although vibrant audio was still limited to the Japanese big guns. A fairly
potent sunrise enhancement boost late in the session brought 594-JOAK and
693-JOAB up to respectable levels, while 747-JOIB and 774-JOUB had similar
strength in the domestic splatter.

Once again the predawn conditions were dreary, with only 594-JOAK and 693-JOAB
managing poor audio in and out prior to 1315. Increasing daylight around 1330
gave all the low-band NHK big guns a boost, although early in sunrise
enhancement only 603-HLSA (poor), 657-Pyongyang (poor to fair) and a presumed
738-BEL2 (poor) had any audio from outside of Japan. 972-HLCA and the
1053-Jammer finally showed up late in sunrise enhancement around 1355 with fair
signals, but they never reached their typical levels this morning. The Japanese
totally dominated the session, with 594-JOAK, 693-JOAB, 747-JOIB and 774-JOUB
all receiving a late propagation boost around 1355 to hit good strength.
594-JOAK was the best of the bunch, managing very good signals briefly with
bizarre amateur signing around 1357. Except for the NHK big guns the session
was pretty dreary, however, with nothing remotely exotic showing up.

594  JOAK   Tokyo, Japan   Amateur signing practice by bizarre female vocalist
(along with male commentary) at
very good level briefly at 1357; best Asian signal of the
morning

1347; completely free of CBU
splatter with one of its best signals this season

somewhat underpowered this
 morning with propagation favoring Japan

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-4

2013-10-04 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Overall it was another mediocre morning for TP's here, but at least a couple of
big gun Japanese started a halfhearted recovery program around 1400. Compared
to Dennis' results, the Asian stations received here were far more limited--
probably because of the more northerly location during auroral conditions. It
was also a short listening session here, wrapping up at 1403.

Once again the band was comatose at 1300, and it wasn't until 1340 that
738-Tahiti started showing up with poor French audio in and out. It looked like
that would be the sum total of the morning until 594-JOAK faded in with fair to
good signals at 1358, followed by 693-JOAB with fair signals at the 1400 TOH.
738-Tahiti never came up above a poor level, and the two Japanese big guns
didn't stick around for long. It was definitely a forgettable morning, but
after yesterday's near shutout, it's probably a modest step back to better
conditions.

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair Japanese male speech in and out
at 1358; best TP signal of the morning

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-4

2012-10-04 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

There were some vibrant signals from the Japanese and Korean big guns here this
morning, although the Chinese mega-stations still seem to be stuck in a
depressed condition. Best audio here this morning was from 594, 693, 747 and
972, with HLCA once again pegging the PL-380's S/N reading at 25 with its
Korean pop music around 1342 (for only the second time this season). Japanese
big guns 693-JOAB and 1287-JOHR were also unusually vibrant this morning,
although the Chinese on 603, 639, 738, 936 and 1044 still couldn't manage
anything better than poor audio in and out of the noise. The Koreans on 657 and
1053 were back to their usual strong levels, though (with equally forgettable
programming). Hopefully some of the guys farther east had a chance to go
after the energetic TP's from Japan and Korea this morning.

558 HLQH Daegu, S. Korea Presumed the one with pop music in KPQ splatter
  at 1325; 603 // inaudible
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good Japanese YL speech at 1358
603 Hulun Buir, China Rising above the noise level with poor Chinese YL speech
late at 1356; HLSA missing in action
639 CNR1 China Synchros Presumed the station with wispy OM speech in KFI
 splatter around 1355
657 Pyongyang, N. Korea Ancient orchestral music at 1352 seemingly
undermodulated despite very strong carrier signal
693 JOAB Tokyo, Japan Fair-good Chinese language lessons and interval music
at 1338; unusual appearance here because splatter
typically covers it
 http://www.mediafire.com/?abq7oezstte68zb
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Poor Chinese OM speech through noise late at 1357
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Good Chinese language lessons at 1335
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Very good Chinese lessons in KTTH splatter at 1336
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Good Japanese female speech at 1401
936 Anhui, China Traces of Chinese OM speech rising out of noise late at 1356
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Very strong Korean YL pop music pegging the
PL-380's S/N reading at 1342; best TP signal of the morning
http://www.mediafire.com/?5npz00qh6l7pb39
1044 CRI Jiangsu, China Poor Japanese OM speech during external pgm 1324
1053 Korean Jammer Strong buzz throughout sunrise enhancement
1134 KBS Hwaseong, S. Korea Good Korean music in splatter at 1330
1287 JOHR Sapporo, Japan (HBC) Fair-good rapid Japanese YL speech in
   splatter around 1326
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Good Japanese OM speech in Christian pgm 1318
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Fair Asiatic language OM speech 1329

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-4

2010-10-04 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

This morning's Asian propagation seemed down somewhat in comparison
to previous days, and Dennis' high band boost was not noticed here. (There
is some evidence that the 9' box loop here performs best on the low band
frequencies, in comparison to single-loop directional antennas). There were
good low-band signals from regulars like 648-VOR and 657-Pyongyang and some
decent Chinese signals on 936 and 1035 kHz at times, but it wasn't exactly a
thrilling session. Trying to identify a weak co-channel that showed up
again under 639-CNR1 proved fruitless, with CNR1 itself in and out. 1053 and
1134 kHz seemed down in strength compared to their usual levels, and 1170
kHz didn't have the usual TP's (KBS or an UnID Chinese station) pestering
KPUG.
Perhaps the brightest sign was the very low band, where 558-HLQH made
its first appearance (// 603-HLSA) with its standard KBS2 Korean pop music
format. The Chinese CRI station on 1044 kHz was also vibrant with its
Japanese-language program, but other than that and some momentary Chinese
fade-ins on 918 and 927 kHz, it was a fairly modest TP-DXing morning here.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the
back
yard). A modified ICF-2010 (with a 30 transplanted loopstick) was used as an
SSB spotting receiver:

558 HLQH Daegu, S. Korea Fair with Korean music at 1351 // 603
585 JOPG Kushiro, Japan Weak Japanese interview at 1337 // 594
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good Japanese talk program around 1340
603  HLSA  Namyang, S. Korea Fair-good Korean pop music at  1351;
trace of UnID Chinese co-channel underneath
639 CNR1 China Synchros Modest Chinese signal around 1406; an
apparent weak co-channel in and out on the frequency but way
too weak to check NHK1 //
_http://www.mediafire.com/?g605jn07bnn0ty6_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?g605jn07bnn0ty6)
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Strong, stodgy Russian music during
during Chinese program at 1335; standard interval music and
Chinese ID at end of MP3
_http://www.mediafire.com/?ai8z9zfy9qvno5a_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?ai8z9zfy9qvno5a)
657 Pyongyang BS, N. Korea Good strength obsolete music in between
 the shouted tirades at 1337
_http://www.mediafire.com/?llikcs2137h626q_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?llikcs2137h626q)
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Fair Japanese conversation around 1345
675 VOV Hanoi, Vietnam Poor Vietnamese speech (OM/YL) at 1358
702+ KCBS, N. Korea Ragged carrier with threshold audio at 1339
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Good strength Chinese speech at 1409
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Fair but no match for KXL splatter 1344
756 CNR1 China Synchros (presumed) Threshold audio in and out
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Strong carrier in stronger KTTH slop 1346
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Fair-good, best of the NHK signals at 1337
918 China (presumed) Weak Chinese speech in and out at 1408
927 China (presumed) Threshold audio around 1407; faded fast
936 China (presumed Anhui) Fair strength Pop music program 1408
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Fair Korean speech and music 1403
1035 CNR1 China Synchros Good Chinese talk at 1350; all alone
1044 CRI Jiangsu, China Good Japanese external program at 1410
1053 Korean Jammer Way down in strength but no competition 1333
1134 TP-Mix Weak combination (apparently of KBS and CNR1) 1334
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Fair-good Japanese religious pgm 1335
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Poor Asian language speech 1336

73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
