[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-24

2018-03-24 Thread Gary DeBock
Craig Barnes certainly picked an excellent morning to chase TP's at the
Kalaloch Lodge! All the usual big gun Asians were potent both before and after
dawn, while several second tier TP's rode a daybreak enhancement boost to their
best audio in some time.

The Japanese big guns were pounding in at S7 levels on 594, 693 and 747 during
a predawn band check at 1130, and they were joined by 972-HLCA at that level
around 1300. The high band was also in play at that time, with good audio from
1566 and fair peaks on 1575 and 1593 (CNR1). 738-BEL2 was already managing some
audio at 1315 in the KCBS splatter, and it sure didn't sound like the usual
Chinese variety show at all. When KCBS began to fade around 1335 the Taiwan
Fisheries signal (apparently // to a weak 1143) built up strength to an S7
level, with male and female speech definitely not in Chinese (maybe in
Indonesian, like Nick had discovered on the website schedule). Fortunately the
738-Taiwan Fisheries signal was well above average at this time for the
language check, along with an above average signal from 603-HLSA during the
same daybreak boost. 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 both rode the same boost to good
peaks in and out, while 1134-JOQR was following the Japanese big gun pat
tern with fair audio. Although both 603-HLSA and 972-HLCA were potent during
the daybreak boost somehow 657-Pyongyang was MIA all morning (as if that was a
big loss). As Nick suggested 1377 was checked several times during the session
for anything exotic, but the watered-down Puyallup version of sunrise
enhancement bailed around 1400 here, dropping all the Asians back down in the
noise. Craig (on the ocean coast at Kalaloch, WA) was given an update on Nick's
probable 1377-RRI reception yesterday, though, and he certainly has no such
limitation.

603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea Korean pop music at a good level at 1328
(hosted by the usual female announcer); no sign of the Chinese co-channel all
session long https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/xksjyvp4937fy52zewis948hf0da1b7i

738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan (Taiwan Fisheries) Female and male speech at S7
level in non-Chinese language at 1338-- Indonesian?

I think we're reverting to your getting better Asian propagation in
the valley, Gary. Although the big guns were still firing fairly
well in Victoria this morning, otherwise, things were decidedly more subdued.

best wishes,

594-JOAK and 693-JOAB were the main stars of the session, with both
very vibrant at my 1320 start time (along with 1566-HLAZ's Japanese
service). 972-HLCA was in and out of "Freedom 970," but generally
pretty potent as well. Sunrise enhancement around 1340 boosted up
738-BEL2 to a fair level in and out, but didn't seem to do much for
the other second-tier regulars on 603 or 657, or the high band TP's
on 1575 and 1593. 1134-JOQR rode the Japanese-slanted propagation to
a brief good level during sunrise enhancement, but the main
attraction here during that period was 738-BEL2's Chinese pop music
program, with the usual female announcer quite legible after the
740-Frisco splatter bit the dust around 1340. It was quite a thrill
to track this down on an antenna not much larger than an Ultralight radio.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-24

2015-03-24 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,
Asian signals returned to both the low and high band this morning, with a few
of them even sounding somewhat healthy. A decent sunrise enhancement boost
around 1340 brought up some fair to good signals on 594, 603 and 693, while
1566 and 1575 both managed fair peaks on the high band a little earlier.

At my 1310 start time only the high band had any Asian audio, with 1566-HLAZ
hitting fair to good peaks with its Japanese Christian program and 1575-VOA
managing fair peaks with its male-female Asiatic language news format. Around
1330 the increasing daylight brought the low band regulars on 594, 603 and 693
up out of the noise, with 594-JOAK building up to good peaks around 1345, and
603-HLSA and 693-JOAB in and out with fair moments around the same time. The
high band didn't seem to get much of a sunrise enhancement boost, though, and
all of the Asians were long gone by 1355. It wasn't exactly a stellar morning,
but who can complain after the long-running solar tantrums this past week?

Listening this morning it was obvious propagation was in transition from the
recent solar storm. While I wasn't
expecting any TP signals, I was surprise by the dearth of Mexican signals as
well as missing northern stations
(WCCO, WGN, WHO, WJR, etc.). Reception just wasn't very good.

2015-03-24 Thread neilkaz
Last evening was severely AU. But unlike most previous nights this week,
southerly and LA stations didn't have all that much power. This might explain
why I noted a major dearth of reports last night from any where in US/Canada.
DXers with somewhat noisy QTH's aren't going to be able to get much non local
past the noise. DXers without big outdoor antennas, aren't going to be able to
get enough signal to copy those weaker signal strengths.

I have big antennas, and I got stuff, but it was more noise ridden and much was
not nearly at the levels of the weekend from the south.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-24

2014-03-24 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asian results here this morning were as meager as Dennis' report, although with
a slightly different cast of characters. A couple of Chinese stations managed
some poor to fair audio for a few minutes, in addition to the usual Korean big
guns.

Only 972-HLCA and 1566-HLAZ ever managed good audio this morning (both of them
around 1330), and only for very brief periods. A collection of weak Chinese
stations on 603, 738, 936, 1377 and 1593 made things somewhat interesting this
morning by rotating in and out of the noise during a lackluster sunrise
enhancement from 1340-1350, but only a presumed 936-Anhui and 1377-CNR1 ever
reached fair levels (and only for a few seconds, each). Both 558-HLQH and its
parallel 603-HLSA made weak appearances around 1340, but bailed shortly after
that. The Japanese NHK stations were especially anemic this morning, with only
594-JOAK and 693-JOAB managing fair levels around 1345, along with 531-JOQG at
a poor level. 1575-VOA was the last Asian to make an appearance this morning,
reaching a poor to fair level before all of the TP's dived into the noise in
unison around 1400. Overall it was a pretty dreary session, but probably what
should be expected in late March of a lean solar year.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-24

2013-03-24 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asian results here this morning were very similar to those reported by Dennis,
except for the usual difference between us of fewer Japanese stations heard
here (and more Koreans). For overall variety of TP's it was one of the best
days of March, with audio from 558-HLQH (fair), 594-JOAK (good, at 1335),
738-Taiwan (fair), 972-HLCA (good, at 1330), 1053-Korean Jammer (good, at
1350), 1134-KBS (fair), 1566-HLAZ (good, at 1345) and 1575-VOA (fair). If these
good conditions continue until tomorrow morning, it might be worth it for other
DXers to give this late-season band a try.
