Interestingly 1593 was doing well here this morning also, and was the sole Chinese on a mostly DU morning. 73, Nigel On Thu, Mar 29, 2018, 9:21 AM Nick Hall-Patch,wrote: > 1330UT seemed to be the peak here as well, Gary, but not much in the > way of Chinesethere might be something identifiable on the > recordings, but 1593 didn't show until 1400UT, and even then was quite > weak. > > On the other hand, there has been a fair bit of post-sunrise > evidence. 747 just had the sign off chimes at fair strength at > 1504UT, well over an hour after local sunrise, and several other > channels were still showing intermittent audio as well. 1330UT seemed to be the peak here as well, Gary, but not much in the way of Chinesethere might be something identifiable on the recordings, but 1593 didn't show until 1400UT, and even then was quite weak. On the other hand, there has been a fair bit of post-sunrise evidence. 747 just had the sign off chimes at fair strength at 1504UT, well over an hour after local sunrise, and several other channels were still showing intermittent audio as well. Maybe 1593 was in there somewhere also. best wishes, Nick At 14:46 2018-03-29, Gary DeBock wrote: What seemed like a pretty routine session developed some drama around 1330 as the fairly rare 657-China (Henan?) managed to take over the frequency, silencing Pyongyang BS and its "TOH" 3+1 pips. At my 1300 start time the usual big guns on 594, 693, 747, 972 and 1566 were at good levels in and out, with some occasional fair signals from 603-HLSA, 657-Pyongyang and 1593-CNR1. Around 1320 the usual Pyongyang tirade woman on 657 started having some co-channel competition from an easy listening music station, which made a strange combination with her angry shouting. What seemed like a pretty routine session developed some drama around 1330 as the fairly rare 657-China (Henan?) managed to take over the frequency, silencing Pyongyang BS and its "TOH" 3+1 pips. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-29
Hello All, The Asians were back in force this morning, with several of them managing very good signals during a generous sunrise enhancement. 603-HLSA was back at a vibrant level after a day's absence, along with the 1053-Jammer with its best signal of the new year. This morning was the first real test of the new 15 DXpedition FSL here (with the design photo posted at http://www.mediafire.com/view/zi23102bq3kz50c/15inchFSL-005.jpg ). This 29-pound monster has 111 Russian surplus ferrite rods, and an FSL point score (coil diameter x ferrite length) of 3000. It seems to dig out TP audio quite well even from wimpy carriers, and has bonus coverage of the amateur radio 160 meter band. Anyway the session started here at 1250, when the 1053-Jammer was the star of the hour, going on a nice romp jamming the domestic splatter here for about 15 minutes (reaching its best audio yet in 2014 around 1302). Quite a few Asians were already fairly potent by 1300, including 594-JOAK (good), 693-JOAB (good in Vancouver splatter), 972-HLCA (very good) and 1566-HLAZ (very good). Sunrise enhancement around 1330 once again brought up the Japanese NHK signals, especially 774-JOUB, which reached very good audio (in KTTH splatter) around 1335. 531-JOQG came up to a fair level, while 594, 693, 747 and 828 all had good signals in and out. After yesterday's strange absence 603-HLSA bounced back with serious energy from 1325-1340, managing very good signals with its classic American rock (and deep-voiced male announcer). The high band had quite a few vibrant signals this morning, with 1566-HLAZ, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 all having their fair to good moments from 1330-1345. With the! increasing daylight all the Asians started to bail around 1350, with 594-JOAK the last to fade around 1355. Overall it was a pretty interesting session, despite the lack of anything really exotic. Best signal of the morning (for strength, not content) was from the 1053-Jammer at 1302. 603 HLSA Namyang, S. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-29
Hello All, It was an unusual TP-DXing morning here, with the Japanese NHK stations generally managing the best audio (and most of the usual Korean big guns fairly subdued). 738-Tahiti made its first appearance of 2013 at this location with fair French OM audio around 1333, and stuck around for most of the session until the band collapsed around 1355. None of these stations were especially vibrant, but the signals from 747-JOIB, 774-JOUB and 828-JOBB were the best that those NHK stations have managed for quite some time here (which is not generally a Japanese-favorable environment like Victoria, or Kalama). 1566-HLAZ was the lone Korean with decent audio, reaching a very good level around 1255 (the best signal of the DXing session). 738 R. Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-29
Gary: It was defintely a Down Under morning here in northern Oklahoma There were hets on all over the band, especially on 612, 702, 738, 891, 918 and 1198 kHz. As usual the strongest was on 891. I finally settled on 702 for a listen until 1226 GMT. There appeared to be distorted, unreadable audio on the frequency around sunrise (1219). I need to give a listen to the recording when I get back home later. I also checked 657, 594, 774, 1116, 1548 and 1566 but heard nothing. Receiver: PL-310 with 7-inch FSL antenna. Good DX.
