Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
There are too many to pick only one best QSL in the collection, but there are many fav's out there. I am so happy, I have been at the dials fo nearly 50 years. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
My best QSL ever came in March 1989 for a Feb. 27th wee-hours reception of KOMO. Not only was it one of my most-distant QSLs ever (just under 1400 miles from rural Oakland, Iowa), but it was the hands-down winner for most colorful, with a gorgeous painting of (I think) Puget Sound on the front. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska (Letters sent from here to KTNC-1230, KQAQ-970, and KBRF-1250, only the last one has verified so far) From: Patrick Martin To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Sent: Saturday, August 6, 2011 1:33 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] QSL replies Brian, Yes, so mny wonderful memories. Living on the Oregon Coast, I have heard lots of Australians/New Zealanders through the years. I remember back in the Summer of 1979, I went to the post office and there were 7 QSLs, 4 from Australia and 3 from New Zealand! All in one day. In the bunch was a beautiful full color card from 2GB Sydney. A picture of the sunset with big Gold letters of "2GB" on the front. Ah...The good ol' days. Ernie Cooper of MA and I were corresponding quite often on QSLing as we loved it as much as I did at the time. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
Hi, A nice thread on QSL's. Lots of memories come flooding back of arriving in after a days work to find an envelope from some distant land and the kids waiting to see the contents hi! There is no way an e-card can compete with the glory days. 72, Brian, G0NSL-QRP. Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
Rick, DX has been down for sometime and add to that, I just don't get excited with e mail QSLs. Better than nothing, but not much. That QSL letter or card was always the prize and those are getting more rare. The past 10 years, everything has been going in the direction to e mail, if you get that reply. I know several stations that will only QSL via e mail. Nothing else. The "HeyDay" of the good QSL is on its' way out. I never thought I would ever say that, but with the advent of the Computer World things have changed. We are stuck with it, unlss we start designing our own QSL cards with logos off the stations' website and the like. I have done a bit of that with letterhead, but it still is not as much fun, as you still get back the same piece of paper you sent.
Congrats Nigel. It's nice to see that stations still care about listeners. I haven't sent a MW report in a year but plan on getting back to it this fall. Re: [IRCA] QSL replies
And the e-mail replies are the ones, personally, that I couldn't care less for. I want to have something to put into a 3-ring binder to admire in the future, and printing up an e-mail response on a blank white sheet of paper -- no colorful logo or anything -- is plain-label and mundane, IMHO. I'd rather have something nice on their stationary that stands out in a collection. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: Patrick Martin To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Sent: Friday, August 5, 2011 10:30 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] QSL replies Nigel, Great to see those two are still DXer friendly. Nice going Nigel. Yes, QSLs are tough to come by so each one seems special now. I'm glad that some of us are still sending reports and keeping the QSL flame alive.
