[IRCA] TA carriers

2018-08-24 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
Listening last night - one of the few lower-static nights in recent weeks -
produced numerous TA's with Spain on 855 being the stand-out.

Most of the other bigger Spain channels were in and there was reasonable RF
from UK 693, 882, 909, 1089, and 1215.

The Iran buzzer on 1575 (covering UAE) was the farthest east thing noted.
Egypt on 864 was in and out. Not sure what's going on with Saudi Arabia 1521:
they don't seem to be showing up.

Mauritania 783 must be off still. I'd be interested in what others are noting.

I don't think Roy Barstow had it on his recent Cape Cod beach DXpedition.
Normally it would be a blowtorch around local sunset here.

Maybe both Mauritania and Sudan are heading to Bruce Conti's "Silent MW Radio
Countries" list.

2009-03-22 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
1215 has a darn fine carrier at times this evening, but still not enough for
audio. Other and weaker, (to much weaker) carriers on the following channels:

855, 864, 882, 927, 936, 1008, 1017, 1053, 1062, 1089, 1107, 1116, 1206, 1242,
1251, 1269 and 1422.

Given that I have a strong local on 1070, others might want to check
1062never heard anything there before.

Andat 0458UT, 1215 has faded up with weak pop mx. The season's not dead
yet.

best wishes,

Don, your comments on the DKAZ vs Beverage is very interesting! I, too,
was impressed with the DKAZ in Masset, although there was precious little
TA activity during my week there. It was, however, deaf on LW. I had
originally oriented it to favour slight East of North, but within 2 days,
switched it to SW where it shone! Since my last post a few minutes ago, I
did have snippets of audio on 1215, but it's now down to imaginary levels
again at 04:28 UTC.Walt

Never a hint here Mark, even back in the days of hearing Farda-1575
and Sawa-1539, (the latter is silent now isn't it?) There is a
semi-local on 1520, but its IBOC cuts up the channels around it, not 1521.

Here in Alberta at least, it's generally just not there. I did hear it
several times back in the great TA years around 2007-2009, but not
since. Even back then, conditions had to be exceptional, whereas 1575
Farda was pretty much an every night thing.

Ditto for Victoria, Mark. I often wondered why 1521 wouldn't propagate out
here. In Masset, where 1520 is less of an issue, I still have never heard
Saudi on this channel. In the great days of solar minimums, 1575 Farda was
here nightly for weeks on end. Actually local late afternoon, followed by
Europeans. ...73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC

[IRCA] TA carriers WCNA

2013-09-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
In spite of this morning's poor Asiatic showing there are TA carriers
again in Victoria this evening, such as 1215, 855, 945, 1422. The
odd one is 891 showing a definite fading pattern, and drifting back
and forth between 890.991 and .992 roughly.

best wishes,

Nick

there have been carriers on the British channels, 909 1089 1215 1485.
Nothing too exciting, as not developing into anything, but also not
too expected either.

Took something of a nose dive when I went down to the radio room at 0500z -
lots of bars on 1215 KHz but by the time I got downstairs, nothing. Using a

Not really "hearing" Patrick...brief audio snippets on 1215 seems to be

other good strength recent (0450UT) carriers have been 819, 864, 954 and 1431,

1215 has a darn fine carrier at times this evening, but still not enough
for audio. Other and weaker, (to much weaker) carriers on the following
channels:

855, 864, 882, 927, 936, 1008, 1017, 1053, 1062, 1089, 1107, 1116, 1206,
1242, 1251, 1269 and 1422.

Given that I have a strong local on 1070, others might want to check
1062never heard anything there before.

Andat 0458UT, 1215 has faded up with weak pop mx. The season's not

864, 873, 882, 909, 945, 1008, 1062, 1107, 1134, 1206, 1215, 1269, 1377,
1422, 1485, and 1566.Most fairly weak, and no audio except a few
traces on 1215, but certainly more action than I've seen for a while.

2009-11-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Thanks for the alert Nick, as I was busy outside and not thinking of
TA's yet. Here I found audio from old reliable 1134 Croatia, but also
English from Sweden on 1179.Hmmm, sounds like a Chinese lesson on
1458 (actually a long way off, more like 1457.79 - so from Albania no
doubt). Also traces of audio on 1422, 1341, 1269, 1215.

We all know an early start doesn't always mean much, but we can hope!

Considering that Alaska is a freebie here, I should be
checking the same channels for Hets into the evening...
problem is -- the moment the Sun goes down you have one
hour before the Pacifics start up and 2.5 hours before the

id'ing every 5 minutes (kidding) ...

I have no carriers on any splits.

returned it was barely there with audio. And an hour after that it was gone,
not even a carrier. Both 1134 (Croatia) and 1422 (probably Germany) were

Around 0530UT, pop mx faded up here on 1215, quite a fair signal for
a moment or two. Not too many additional carriers1089, 1206,

Don't know what happened, Patrick. There was real promise and then,

The numbers have been really low and it takes that to even get anything

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers

2018-10-19 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
So far, Neil's prediction service has been working far better than
anything NOAA has been offering, hi.

Here's the 3-day prediction from NOAA

NOAA Kp index forecast 19 Oct - 21 Oct
 Oct 19Oct 20Oct 21
00-03UT3 3 2
03-06UT3 3 3
06-09UT3 2 2
09-12UT2 2 2
12-15UT2 2 2
15-18UT4 2 2
18-21UT5 2 2
21-00UT4 2 2

Now, of course, anything might happen, but so far on the 18th and
19th, we have had the biggest run of K=0 in I don't know how long.

How is it done Neil? Entrails of a sheep? (of an HQ180?)

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers

2018-10-20 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Neil = 1, NOAA = 0

(K= 0 as well, hi)

It should be a great evening for TAs coming
up. My prediction is based on the fact that I
will need to be out this evening

best wishes,

Nick

 Hi Nick,
I believe I understand your ionospheric predictive methodology. It is possibly
related to the superior conditions present when I was recently in a hotel room
in downtown Victoria, followed by the subsequent downturn in conditions when I
was in what I thought would be a superb TP DXing location in Tofino:-)

[IRCA] TA carriers only

2006-10-19 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Well, there's signs of TAs there for sure, but mostly tiny little
carriers, with a need to verify with Spectran.

1215 goes without saying, though often not very strong.

first pass about 0315 added: 567 639 765 774 783 855 864 1008 1017
1269 1296 1314 (! there's life on the old channel yet) 1377 1413 1422
1485 1539 1584 (what's with 1485 and 1584?). Another pass at 0445
yielded some of those plus 1611 1341 1251 1107 945 and 531
Lonwave showed hints of 189 and maybe 180 carriers in the electrical noise

Most really weak thoughmaybe they will make it to Grayland with a
bit more zip.

best wishes,

Nick
