Normally I listen for an hour or so before sunrise, perhaps afterwards if conditions warrant it. After last night's geomagnetic upset, the expected occurred this morning, not much action after 1500UT..but...butthen there was a sunrise enhancement affecting both the top and bottom of the band, really kicking into life around 1540UT. I'm sure there is more on the recordings, but the sample below will have to do. This is not what Nigel and Steve were reporting. The NHK2 stations signed off today at 1520UT rather than the normal 1600UT of the past few days. As a result, they were MIA when the opening occurred, though there were some strong carriers on some of their channels. (also, NHK2 had some stronger signals around 1400UT, and who knows, maybe overnight too. ) pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 594 JOAK man in Japanese 1559UT 603 HLSA soft music leading to female vocal 1539UT; someone else there too, weaker, male talk Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1566 HLAZ assumed, ballad, 1549UT not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 558 HLQH slow vocals //603 1536UT; another station there also 567 JOIK classical orchestral mx //594 1538UT 1242 JOLF? ballad 1542UT 1287 JOHR woman in Japanese 1544UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 531 JOQG traces of classical orchestra //567 1539UT 540 NHK1 classical mx //567 1537-8UT 585 JOPG classical mx //567 1539UT 612 JOLK classical mx //567 1538UT 747 JOIB woman talking 1519UT; faint music box 1523UT 1116 woman talking, Chinese intonation 1536UT 1251 CNR1 woman talking //1593, 1536-7UT 1134 woman talking, Japanese intonation 1535UT 1314 man and woman talking Japanese intonation 1545UT, but a few minutes later maybe preaching? possibly Philippines for the latter? 1332 female ballad 1543UT 1422 JORF? woman talking Japanese intonation 1540UT 1485 choral music, almost island style, better on North Flag 1542UT; Philippines? 1503 JOUK classical music //594 1543UT 1593 CNR1 man talking //6125 1539UT Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 621 639 774 828 972 1206 1224 1377 1431 1539 1557 1575 seemed to be Asian; 846 1098 seemed to be DU best wishes, Nick Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Just two audios this morning, both high band Asians and at local sunrise. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): not today Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): not here either not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 1566 HLAZ woman talking, Chinese, 1551UT, but also at 1601UT. Some degree of audio remained until about 1620UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 1593 CNR1 woman talking, insistent Chinese inflection, 1556UT, no parallels available, but heard pips weakly on the hour and a couple of words sounding like "guangbo dientai" Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 774 828 and 972 seemed to be Asian, heard earlier on. best wishes, Nick ___ ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Another uninspiring morning, with little evidence of sunrise enhancement. (or much of anything else) pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): no Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 774 JOUB man in Japanese? 1159UT, then pips, faded up as English lessons started; this popped up from time to time into audio for the next hour or two, but never very strong. not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: the above passing through Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 567 JOIK? man talking 1333UT, Japanese inflection 891 JOHK? NHK style pips 1200UT, not much else 972 man talking 1349UT, not much of a clue to language Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 738 747 828 1116 1323 1566 best wishes, Nick ___ ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Things actually did look up a bit this morning. 1575 finally arrived here, briefly, but pretty good strength, plus a few lower strength oddments pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): not quite yet Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1575 VoA likely with man and woman in SE Asian language, also man interviewing another man on the phone. Although heard weakly as early at 1514UT, this peaked quite suddenly, 1542-1547UT, then rapidly faded. not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 1566 HLAZ joined the brief sunrise peak at 1545UT, woman in CC Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 774, 828 and 594 all had the NHK pips at 1400UT, not much else though. 837 man talking 1459UT, maybe DU EE?, but nothing identifiable at 1500UT 1116 4BC? man talking, DU EE inflection 1430UT Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 612 738 891 best wishes, Nick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Well, yes, it was a lousy morning; conditions were supremely lousy until about 1430UT, when they became mildly less lousybut extreme minimalist DXing yielded a new one just before sunrise just the same... pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): If you believe this, I have a bridge to sell you... Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): still stretching the imagination far past the breaking point not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 972 HLCA man in KK 1506UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 747 JOIB woman talking fairly rapidly //774 which was similarly weak, 1434UT 774 JOUB as above, 1434; man mumbling also noted 1508UT 1314 DWXI, yes, the new one. Choral mx, similar to the web stream from El Shaddai (http://tunein.com/radio/El-Shaddai-1314-s99570/), changed to woman singing 1541UT, sort of an island flavor, about a minute's delay to web stream, then stringed instrumental 1543UT, probably the "peak". Man talking and responses 1545UT, a prayer? Never really amounting to much, but more than enough for me. 1575 ? light instrumental mx 1523UT Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 1377 1522 1548 1566 1593 best wishes, Nick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
