Two steps back, one step forward...?

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

the above passing through

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

594 3WV ABC fanfare after NHK pips 1500UT

612 4QR various DU styled mumblings, but definite fanfare at 1500UT

1017 island vocals 1443UT; Tonga assumed

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged

A tick upwards again today. As yesterday, NHK2 signed off at 1500UT,
and their remaining carriers peaked well after that time. Lots of
carriers, but like the audio, peaks were usually brief.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK brief peak with man and woman in Japanese, she on phone, 1519UT
972 HLCA female ballad, 1536UT; at other times, weaker, but
recognizable Korean talk
1566 HLAZ female vocal 1533UT; at other times, weaker, but
recognizable Chinese talk

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

828 JOBB woman in Japanese 1439UT
1503 JOUK man in Japanese 1546-8UT, earlier had been weaker but //594
which was gone by now

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

774 JOUB s/off music box 1503UT
1422 JORF man and woman in Japanese into commercial with Japanese vocals 1532UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK jazz //594 1524UT
603 soft music 1525UT
639 CNR1 man talking //6125 1528UT
612 man talking, sounded like DU English 1528UT
693 JOAB woman singing //828 1445UT
873 JOGB woman talking //828 1452UT
1242 woman talking, possible Japanese 1530UT
1593 CNR1 man and woman //6125 1537UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)
 558 738 891 1134 1188 1251 1278 1287 1314 1323 1386 1458 1494
1512 1539  1557 1575 1584 seemed to be Asian;

 612 621 738 846 1017 seemed to be DU

The signal strength monitor said there was some liveliness after
1100UT, but not much liveliness in this listener or his SDR at that time.

Things were more subdued this morning closer to sunrise, but a
surprising number of Asians turned up just the same

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today, though 612 was pushing it.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR man in DU English, another man on phone 1336UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1455UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK man talking, very weak, but //594 1522UT
747 JOIB turned up a couple of times earlier, but weak music box at
1542UT clinched it

774 JOUB music box 1541UT
828 JOBB trumpet music, man and woman talking, seemed Japanese,
1525UT; ID'd with music box very weak 1541UT
1566 assumed HLAZ, didn't fade in until 1601UT, man talking after
patch of instrumental music

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

972 1242 1422 seemed to be Asian; 531 576 1098 seemed DU

best wishes,

Nick

An early appointment meant no live listening for me this morning
which was a pity, as the NetSDR recording says that the band had
quite a nice little conniption between about 1510 and 1530UT. Some
pretty erratic displays of signal, mostly at the middling to upper
end of the band, but some lower also.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not quite actually; quantity of stations rather than one or two at
good strength was the watchword today.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

558 HLQH surprise of the morning with soulful female vocal //603,
peaking 1520-2UT

594 JOAK NHK1 theme music //1503, 1510UT
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1352UT, back for another round at 1512UT
w/English lessons, different from the usual format, as it was a
Japanese man struggling to pronounce English. When our CBC starts
to produce language lessons, I'll know that something very strange
and wonderful has happened indeed.

1422 unID slow female vocal, almost Spanish sounding 1520UT and a little later
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1350UT, but also came into its own around 1523UT also

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

972 HLCA woman in Korean 1351UT
1242 JOLF man with lively Japanese talk 1519UT
1593 CNR1 man and woman in Chinese 1410UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

603 HLSA big carrier but tiny audio 1522UT, vocal music //558; has
this gone undermodulated? It used to be quite the opposite
612 man talking, but not //594, and didn't really sound DU English
either 1522UT

747 man and woman talking 1512UT //774
828 JOBB man and woman, English lessons //774 1201UT, but no sign later
1134 man talking 1508UT, too splashy to guess language
1206 man mumbling in the hum 1517UT
1386 NHK2 synchros man in Japanese //774 1525UT
1503 JOUK traces of NHK1 theme music //594 1510UT
1575 woman talking, SE Asian language? 1358UT but nothing later

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

738 1098 1143 1269 1287 1314 1323 1332

best wishes,

Nick

A step down from yesterday, but not quite a step into oblivion.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

after that lead in, you were expecting Bangladesh?

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

or even Tokyo?

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

Anchorage?

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

OK, reality at last:
594 JOAK, pips barely heard 1500UT
747 JOIB? man declaiming, maybe language lessons, no 774 for comparison, 1529UT
774 JOUB? woman talking JJ inflection 1445UT
1116 4BC? man talking, DU EE inflection 1424UT
1314 ? 1511UT, man talking, emphatic syllables, maybe a preacher?

Strongish het, no or near imaginary audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

Well, my local noise maker was off this morning, unfortunately so was
the DX, when I checked at 1400, 1500 and 1530UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

none

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be

understood by a native speaker:

not here either

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

1503 JOUK?? barely at the splatter level, woman talking followed by
man 1531UT; something similar was happening on 594 at the time, but
it was even more imaginary

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
