2018-12-19 Thread R. Colin Newell
I caught 972 KHz at 1515 UTC
and it was not alone— something co-channel... video taped it but haven’t
replayed the file.

639 China felt better today than yesterday - if only briefly.

[IRCA] TP 19 Dec Victoria version.

2018-12-19 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Not quite so good as yesterday, so definitely not as good as two days ago.

These mornings, the "sunrise" peak seems to be around 1540UT, about 20
minutes before actual sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

594 JOAK 1538UT

747 JOIB 1544UT

774 JOUB 1529UT

972 HLSA 1539UT; quite a nice secondary peak at 1711UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

567 JOIK //594 1547UT

639 CNR1 //945 1535UT

657 N. Korea assumed, female operatic singing 1530UT

693 JOAB 1531UT

828 JOBB 1504UT

918 Shandong RGD, woman in Chinese 1551UT //1548 on Korean KiwiSDR

945 CNR1 //6175 1553UT

1566 HLAZ choral music 1557UT, but nearly as strong at 1708UT with man in
Korean.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

603 HLSA ballad //558 on Korean KiwiSDR 1549UT; 558 had no audio here

666 JOBK //594 1519UT

729 JOCK //594 1459UT

738 female ballad, didn't seem parallel to the grumblings on 711, 864 or 1143
at 1525UT; faded to an oriental jumble, but the man and woman talking at 1528UT
sounded Japanese, then into pop song

819 N. Korea likely; woman singing operatically 1540UT

1287 JOHR man and woman in Japanese 1544UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

621 easy listening music 1559UT, no change across the hour, just faded away;
programming similar to Heilongjiang RGD

702 NHK2 music box 1541UT

711 HLKA man talking //864 1541UT

864 HLKR //711 1541UT

873 JOGB //828 1527UT

891 JOHK //594 1533UT

1098 CNR1 woman talking //945 1556UT

1575 Iran jammer, not strong, but there 1548UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

 675 846 855 909 954 999 1017 1026 1035 1089 1134 1143 1179 1188 1206 1242
1215 1251  1323 1422 1458  1575  1593seemed to be Asian;
nothing much seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

The signal strength monitor said that the Asians were jumping prior
to about 1300UT. Only problem is that there really wasn't much
leading up to sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

the above passing through

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

594 man and woman talking 1523UT, likely JOAK per intonation
747 JOIB pips and 1500UT and not much else.
774 likely JOUB with female singing 1456UT, no parallels
1566 woman talking, Chinese intonation 1542UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

567 603 972 1134 1242 1287 1323 1422 1593  seemed to be Asian;

There was some Asiatic activity in the lower band around 1400UT, and
HLAZ did pop up both towards the end of the Japanese program, and for
the occasional fade up during the Chinese program even before 1500UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

nope

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

nope

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1566 HLAZ likely 1444UT, woman in Chinese. Just Chinese inflections
later, including apparent last gasp at 1604UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

774 woman talking 1353UT
972 man talking, too much splatter to guess at language
1053 Korean jammer 1359UT; disappeared after 1400UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

[IRCA] TP 19 Dec Victoria version

2015-12-19 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Although there were a number of carriers at various times, the only
real DX was sunrise enhancement, and one needed to watch it
carefully, it jumps up very quickly, and disappears pretty soon
too. Mostly a disappointing morning though

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

no, though 774 was close

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

774 JOUB literally popped up at 1542UT with s/off chimes, lasted
about two minutes, then gone again

1566 HLAZ this was noticed a couple of times during the Japanese
program (1259, 1320UT), but the interesting arrival was another
quick one at 1558UT w/ man in Chinese, erratic signal as usual

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

1116 likely 4BC, some (not all) pips at 1400UT, followed by man in
what could have been DU English

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

2014-12-19 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Again, pretty dead from 1400UT on, again, a little snippet of
774. And, again, about 10 minutes of high band activity a little
before local sunrise at 1600UT. This time, I realized that the
signals were better on the north Flag, seconds before the chimes
ended on NHK2 1386. Sunrise enhancement not quite as "good" as
yesterday overall however.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

maybe not until next year (season?)...put perhaps I'll be proven wrong

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

the above, again.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1386 NHK2 synchros. Last few notes of chimes 1544UT, as I switched to
the north Flag; good carrier afterwards

1566 HLAZ man in CC 1546UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

774 JOUB woman talking 1452UT, JJ inflection?

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

972 1557 1593

Not particularly good before 1500UTand not particularly good
after 1500UT. A tiny lift after about 1525UT, but that was it.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it

still unlikely

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
