An odd morning today, totally Asian despite the geomagnetic rumblings, and
completely dead on the upper band. Best signals were from 1435 to about
1500UT, with a complete collapse around local sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

747 JOIB 1446UT

774 JOUB 1448UT

972 HLCA 1455UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

594 JOAK 1436UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

702 NHK2 man and woman //774 1451UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

567 JOIK //594 1442UT

585 JOPG woman talking, then choral music 1453UT //594

603 HLSA ballad 1457UT //558 on Korean SDR

612 JOLK complete shock (expecting 4QR with today's geomagnetism) with man
talking //594 1436UT

828 JOBB never amounting to much 1459UT, but pips gave it away

873 JOGB man //747 1456UT

945 NHK1 woman talking //594 1453UT; pretty weak, but definitely parallel;
likely JOIQ Muroran? judging by northerly locations of most other Japanese
heard, so pretty fair DX...

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

711 1188  seemed to be Asian;

nothing seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

Another sleeper of a morning, with a mix of Asians and Aussies, but none too
apparent at a first listen. Start digging in the period between about 1430 and
1445UT and you'd be lost however, as fades were quite erratic, and something
inaudible would become quite audible, then gone again.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1437UT
774 JOUB English lessons 1434UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK man in Japanese //594 1444UT
612 4QR man in DU English on phone 1434UT
702 2BL man in DU English 1443UT, various parallels at various times
747 JOIB English lessons 1439UT
828 JOBB man in Portuguese 1444UT
891 JOHK peaking 1447UT light jazz //594 which was weaker just then

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

558 HLQB soft music 1430-2UT //603 which was very weak
693 JOAB woman talking //828 1438UT
774 3LO rock music //612 1439UT, briefly over a faded down JOUB
1143 woman in Chinese 1439UT, likely Taiwan
1242 pop music 1437UT, JOLF?
1422 likely JORF with pop music 1442UT, best on north Flag
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1439UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

576 man talking, DU English intonation 1434UT
594 3WV man talking //612 far underneath JOAK
603 HLSA woman talking //558 1439UT
684 2KP pop music //612 1438UT, a bit of a catch...
738 2NR man talking //702 1431UT
765 woman talking 1434UT; 603 was a low grade mess at this time, so no possible
parallel, possibly NZ
954 man talking, Japanese intonation 1436UT
972 man and woman talking 1453UT, possibly Korean?
1017 island vocals 1445UT, likely Tonga

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)
 936 1575 1584 1593seemed to be Asian;
 585 657 675 756 792 846 1008 1098 seemed to be DU

All over the map this morning. If I'd chosen a channel between
1430UT and 1500UT, something might have popped up at some point if
I'd listened for the whole time to just that channel . Mostly
really erratic, and a strong Phillippine/Indonesia-1377 leaning, but
China, Australia, Japan, Korea, maybe New Zealand earlier, all seemed
to be around A pity that none near the coast seem to have heard
anything after yesterday's alert. And, congratulations on Indonesia,
Nigel; good to see shared information leads to such worthwhile returns.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1377 RRI Toli Toli. In and out 1426-1505UT, peaking at this level,
would have been perfectly readable for much of the time if not for
1380 splash. Checked a couple of times vs. webstream, then became
second nature, hi.

1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1443UT, had to be part of the festivities

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1259UT, pips; also good around 1445UT
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1259UT, pips
1026 slow music 1429UT; man at 1430UT sounded Tagalog; got to get
some webstreams straight...when there's time, hi

1215 Philippines???judging by other DX channels; slow vocal music 1439UT
1512 DYAB? slow male and female vocals 1443UT, think I heard some
Tagalog somewhere, but it was all pretty confusing

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

972 HLCA man in Korean 1318UT
1548 4QD man in DU English 1452UT, seemed //612 which was much weaker

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

558 man and woman talking 1445UT, not //603
567 JOIK man talking //594 1446UT
603 soft music 1445UT
828 JOBB man in Japanese //774 129UT
981 oriental sounding singing and accompaniment 1307UT China?
1008 woman talking, could have been Tagalog 1436UT
1314 woman talking 1444UT
1422 big carrier man talking 1442UT
1574 light singing by woman 1522UT, long after everything else was gone

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

531 891 1188 1242 1386 1404

best wishes,

Nick

Not sleeping, just dead? My newly discovered Filipino web streams
will have to wait for another day; one of them at least lets you
watch murky video from the announcers, a couple of newsreaders
hamming it up a bit, so the morning had at least some entertainment value.

Sunrise enhancement seemed all that there was from 1230UT onwards,
starting about 1420UT at the top end of the band. Unfortunately, my
actual signal recording (as opposed to signal strength recording)
failed, and I started it up again at 1430UT, to catch the end of it.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not even remotely today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

even this was too much to ask for

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1575 VoA likely, woman in SE Asian language 1436UT, best on west Flag

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

1566 HLAZ assumed, woman talking 1437UT, but too murky for even a
guess at language

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

2013-02-28 Thread Colin Newell

Something of a sunrise enhancement while
listening at the UVic parking lot on
the Honda Civic radio --

Loud hets on 738, 747, 828, 891, 972, 1008, 1098, etc

Likely yielding audio on any radio that could tune
the splits -- unlike the Honda Civic radio!

Makes me wonder if the 2012 Honda Civic radio
can be set to the 9Khz plan.
