Transfusion by Nervous Norvous, now there's a song you don't hear every
day. That's right up there with They're Coming To Take me Away ha ha ho ho

pulled it. Purple People Eater was another one. Gotta love those serious

KDON brings back not-so-fond memories for this old coot. I did my basic
training with the 2nd Inf Div at Fort Ord, Calif., down the road from
Salinas in the summer of 1956, and the night DJ show at KDON on 1460
provided the music all 50 of us in my platoon had to listen to. Rock,
mostly bubble gum variety, was just getting started, and the song that
seemed to be played almost every hour was Transfusion by Nervous Norvous.
There also was that dratted novelty record that made sound bites out of
various rock hits of the day, in satirical newscast form .. and my
buddies in the platoon took to calling me John Cameron-Cameron as a
result of that overworked treasure.

I won a contest on a radio station where you had to identify the mystery
oldy after hearing a short clue or part of the song. I think the only thing
that was played was part of the car crash during Transfusion. This was in
1986.

My question is what would a Nervous Norvous concert be like? Would you go
to hear him perform a medly of his hit live?

I remember seeing Loudon Wainwright III perform Dead Skunk at the
Paradise Theater in Boston back in 77 or 78.

Loudon is still making the rounds. One of the FM stations that I work
for (KCUV) sponsored a live concert here in Denver last month featuring
him. I don't know if he did Dead Skunk or not. I had to hold down the
station and didn't get to attend the concert. Skunk was his biggest hit
but it is definitely not in his usual genre. His son is very active in
the music business too.

2007-01-05 Thread Bruce Portzer
Nervous Norvus actually had TWO hit songs. The other one was Ape
Call, which peaked at #24 on the Billboard charts (Transfusion got all
the way up to #8). I've actually heard Ape Call a few times and like it
almost as much as Transfusion.
