[IRCA] V7AB 1098 OC with 60 Hz hum!

2017-10-03 Thread Neil Kazaross
This carrier from the Marshall Islands was strong enough this morning at
sunrise (about 1150 UT) for me to hear some 60 Hz hum and also to see the
two carriers about 60 Hz to the sides of 1098.

If you want audio from this one you need to try no later than 1130.

2017-10-03 Thread Tim Tromp
Noted from West Michigan too, V7AB is now peaking here past their 1130 UTC
sign off time. And as Neil discovered, a distinct 60 Hz audible hum can
easily be heard on their open carrier during big signal peaks and clearly
visible on the SDR. Here's a nice Perseus screenshot showing that hum (the
+/- 60 Hz lines centered on 1098 kHz) during one such signal peak:

No audible DUs heard this morning here, just the usual carriers. One
interesting catch was 740 KATK from Carlsbad, NM. at 1140 UTC which hung in
there for about 10 minutes all alone until Baraboo, WI. blew it out of the
water a few mins before 1200 UTC. KATK only logged two other times here.
I still need these K calls on 740: KIDR-AZ, KVFC-CO & KCIK-HI (I can dream!)

Re: [IRCA] V7AB 1098 OC with 60 Hz hum!

2017-10-03 Thread Neil Kazaross
DXers further east of us who can null WTAM while aiming antenna's main
beam W to WNW should have chances for V7AB as sunrise at 1130 moves further
east. On 740 I need the same K's as Tim. I need Texarkana but they are
silent so off the needed list LOL.

Not usual domestics this morn at 1200 were KNML 610 NM (very rare), KPOW
1260 WY (very rare) KCCF 1350 CO and KNAB 1140 CO (easy via SSS) but
shouldn't be on this early and had mx clearly earlier so not some 6 am PSA.

DU's audible at poor levels were 738 and 594 and a couple other just barely
maybes. So not so good for DU. Yesterday was lots better.

OK let me go see if I had KATK as good as you. Then more listening to
yesterday morning and hoping to pull enough audio on 585. 73 KAZ

Re: [IRCA] V7AB 1098 OC with 60 Hz hum!

2017-10-04 Thread Neil Kazaross
KATK IDed yesterday 1152.:The station you can leave on all day for
America's Best Music, KATK 740 The ??? (certainly didn't say The Hippo and
this seems a slight format change from oldies).

Today in passing KONA 610 good, CKST clobbering WHO. Regular DU's only
at maybe bare audio levels. I expect I will be quite happy with my 1200
recording for domestics.

Do you think Star 657 is undermodulated compared to some? With WSCR IBOC
off a few days ago, carrier was constant SAM lock and often 30 dB above the
noise floor. A clear 10 dB more than need for some non slopped DU audio,
but I could only barely tell the soft mx was Christian.
