[IRCA] WNW EWE
Greetings everyone, Some of you that visited my place last Fall might remember that last leg of that Shore Pine tree that was in the backyard behind the satellite dish. Well, that tree is history now. I had a tree climber come in yesterday and cut it down. With my neighbors moving along with Don's chainsaw, I wont have the support I have had with help. That last leg of the tree was 50 feet high and swayed so much in our high winds, I knew that last leg of the tree would be down in time. I doubt it would have hit the house, but I still did not want to worry about it. Anyway, in the process I had to take down the WNW side of the EWE while he cut the tree down in sections. I put it back up and I even gained another few inches aimed more to the NW now. I don't know how much help in DX to the NW, but I did notice CHFA-680 quite pronounced under KNBR last night and Northerly cx did not seem good. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KAVT Reception Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] WNW EWE antenna update
After moving the antenna few more degrees to the NW, I find I even have a better null on Portland. Add the phaser and the SW EWE in the equation, putting a great phase on the South/SW, Portland is very weak during the day and not much better at night. Leaving the NW/N/NE wide open. Canadians were stronger than ever last night. I should start sitting on the GYers to try to pick off a few more from Eastern BC before they all more to FM. I am quite impressed with the small change I made physically to the antenna. Now this Summer to raise it up 5-10 more feet.
[IRCA] WNW EWE
After a couple people at the IRCA convention last Fall, that came buy my place, the SE leg on the WNW EWE was not straight up and down vertically, and they mentioned it. I went out and climbed the tree and moved the leg over farther and now it is much better. That leg is not easy to get at 25 feet up in the tree, but after three trips up the tree, I finally got it moved and the angle is about 5 degrees closer to the NW now and a foot to 18 inches higher on that leg. The leg is also not against the tree any longer. It seems to work better. In phasing the SW and WNW EWE's now, I get a better signal to the NW/N/NNE. Like CHLW 1310 is now dominant, The lower mainland stations (Vancouver) have gained about 5 DB or so. I still need to raise the other leg a bit, but so far so good. But at 58, climbing up and down the tree three times is not as easy as it once was.
[IRCA] WNW EWE
Greetings, I moved the WNW EWE a bit this afternoon. A bit more to the NW. At LSS tonight, I found High Prairie AB (CIVH) 1020 alone on the channel. Not uncommon to hear, but rarely alone. CFPR 860 was good before LSS, also KTKN in the mix on 930. Conditions or the change? Maybe a bit of both. This Summer I plan to raise the EWE.
