RE: Jim Renfrew, Holley NY 2215 EDT1070Bloomberg Radio rising and falling against CHOK. The only Bloomberg I can find is WTWK, Plattsburg NY. Only problem is that it's a daytimer. Is anyone else hearing this, or is this one known to operate at night? Jim, WTWK's signal has been sort of an oddity in reception from here in Newfoundland for me the past couple of years. In all the time previous spent in St. John's, I had never logged it there. During a weekend out at Old Perlican 100 miles away to the northwest , I had finally logged it for the first time in November or December 2010. Since that time I have heard it a few times here in Bristol's Hope with a bit of a muffled signal both in the late evening and occasional early morning. It definitely was a pest at pre-sunrise (mixing with KNX and CHOK) out in Priest Pond PEI in 2008 and CB Savage Harbour PEI in 2010. Re: [IRCA] WTWK 1070 Plattsburgh, NY
I can name several stations that have PSRA, including WABV. Our PSRA is quite signifigant though! Our night power is a f*^%g joke too, 27 Watts on a VERY crowded channel. Ask Powell! A while later, stations petitioned wondering why they couldn't run mini power at night too. These were called PSSAs. I can't say I've ever heard of a PSRA, but OK sure. Some of the grants were silly. I have a local station nearby that is 5,000 watts day and 34 watts at night. [IRCA] WTWK-1070 NY
With CBA gone, 5kw daytimer WTWK-1070 Plattsburgh, NY/Burlington, VT should be fairly widely heard. This is especially true since they are signing on earlier than they should. Local sunrise in Plattsburgh for April is 0615 EDT. With a PSRA they could sign on at 0600 EDT with 500 watts. However, I have heard them the last few mornings at 0530 EDT and Karl Zuk has heard them at 0520 EDT. Anyway, during local breaks from syndicated talk shows, listen for the slogan Eve 1070 and ads mostly for the Burlington, VT area. Many ads include the 802 (VT) area code. They also run brief local news headlines and local weather. http://www.eve1070.com/7ebba1db-218d-4ea8-bf9d-971d871eaaf4-1033.html -- Marc DeLorenzo South Dennis, MA http://hometown.aol.com/midcapemarc/myhomepage/profile.html ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] WTWK 1070 Plattsburgh, NY
This morning, from 520 to 600 am, I heard WTWK Eve 1070 talk from Plattsburgh, NY blending in with country CHOK from Sarnia, ON. I don't see a PSA for WTWK on the FCC's AM Query. How much power do they run before sunrise? They had a pretty good signal down here mentioning Plattsburgh and St. Albans, VT. [IRCA] WTWK 1070 Reply
I received the following reply from the chief engineer of Eve 1070. I was listening between 5:20 to 6 am on the way to work in my car. They sign on at 6:30 am. Keep in mind midnight to 6 am is legal testing time. Maybe this was what I heard. P.S. I think he meant to say 'turn on time.' Karl Zuk N2KZ Karl, Good to hear from DX'ers like you. WTWK has daytime authority only. WTWK transmits 5kW daytime and goes off the air during nighttime hours. The time schedule varies month to month and daylight savings shifts the hours of operation too. If you heard WTWK during the month of April, our turn off time would be 0730 hrs EST (DST corrected).
