[IRCA] Who the Heck is on 234 LW

2009-11-10 Thread John H. Bryant
Not too much beside Droitwich was doing at 0500 on MW, so I dropped
down to longwave on a lark and caught something on 234 kHz.
Initially, it was at a listenable level, but by 0525, it had slid to
murmur level I am not at all good on European languages. It
sounded sorta like Russian/German/ or what I think is the Germanic
sounding Dutch. Is this RT Luxembourg??? Or something else entirely

Even more ignorant than usual on Orcas Island,

John Bryant

Don't suppose it was an early showing of the Asiatic Russian, John? I know
it's fooled me before at the end of TA openings. Magadan is pretty close to
the terminator even at 0500UT.

Luxembourg would be nice, but Iceland on 189 and Morocco on 171 seem to the
European BCers of choice out here (not for me though, still need to get "real"
loggings of both)

Nick

Re: [IRCA] Who the Heck is on 234 LW

2009-11-10 Thread cafe

I have had 279 in audio for about 1 hour now --

and the TP's seem somewhat livelier and earlier tonight
than last...
and it is only 8:30PM local!

Also reoriented the ALA100M so the loop is POINTING E-W
as opposed to N-S

to try and kill some of the arc-fluorescent tube or
merc-vapor lighting noise...
Did not help but I am getting a major boost on
the Island signals already over last night.

I did go down by the pool which is about 100 feet away
and 10 feet from the Ocean and it is much
quieter down there... and there is outdoor AC
so If I was really motivated... and those who know
me would say...

"He ain't!"

I would set up shop down there and sit under the
stars, dxing while being ravaged by sunscreen drunk mosquitoes...

Maybe tomorrow night.

;-)

John, last year, this one faded in at good levels during our late
evenings (and disappeared by morning), so likely what you
heardWalt (in Christchurch)
