Out here on the west coast, I'm also picking up the 1457.6 carrier as well as
1575. Nothing on 1539, and no audio yet, just the carriers around 23:25 (3:25

Look out for 1467 also guys, I've been hearing audio from TWR in France
for the past few minutes. Weekdays they're off at 2330, but go to
weekends. 1548 is now up to a weak audio level at times too as is
France on 1377.

Thanks, Nigel. Just stumbled across 1467 on my ownaudio traces a few
minutes ago, but it's going to have to be big to get past CJVB-1470's splatter.

Right you are, Nick. When I rechecked at 01:52 virtually every channel has a
het. Particularly strong ones are 756, 765, 819, 1053, 1134, 1341, 1503,
1539, and 1584. Every channel is an exaggeration.but at least half. None
are what I'd call near audio, so depending on how things go, it could be
interesting, or another fizzle. Hopefully things will hold for a while. I'll
be at my DX palace on the Queen Charlotte's between the 29th and the 4th of
January, so I'll be looking for some TA activity for sure! ...Walt.

I believe this is the latest security clampdown from the Dept. of Homeland
Security, Guy. None of them furrin signals get to cross the border without
proper documentation, hi, and our loggings don't count as the correct
paperwork.

Family stuff tonight meant going out for dinner through the snow, and not
staying home to DX, but the signal strength recordings look like 702, 999,
1134, 1215, 1413 and 1467 delivered the strongest signals at one time or
another, but it doesn't look like anything much was consistent over the several
hours.

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] early Alberta TA's: also in Victoria

2008-12-21 Thread Patrick Martin
Guys,

I just cannot compete with your TA signals from North of the border.
They seem to like your QTH. I guess in reality, you have a pretty good
open shot for miles to the NE, which I don't have here. Those hills NE
of me which is the beginning of the Coast Range do a number on blocking
the signals. At least nowdays. Back in the early 80s, TA's were strong
and I could get them on the car radio, like Algeria 891. I haven't set
up a NE EWE as yet, but thanks to Dennis Vroom who sent me pix of his
movable EWE antenna, that NE EWE may be possible here. It remains to be
seen, if a NE EWE will help. Right now I can phase the SW NW EWE's
giving me a lobe to the NW/N/NE. The Alberta stations are dominant, to
the NE of me, but yet TA's are not common. In the past couple of years,
I have IDed exactly three TA's, Radio Farda-1575, VOR-1215, and
Croatia-1134. I have had bits of audio from Virgin Radio 1215,
Moldova-999, VOR 1323, Germany 1269, and that is about it! Norway 1314
used be be a regular visitor every Winter for a number of years. Back in
the early 90s, Sweden-1179 and Finland-963 were heard. That hill was
still there, but I did have 800 feet of wire running North. A road was
put in and the antenna went. I could put in a BOG to the North, but the
neighbor on the far side has the light dimmers and I don't want that
radiating back. But I keep trying.

73,

Patrick
