Re: [IRCA] 1450 KIAL Dutch Harbor, AK
Walt, The station is supposed to be on the air with a longwire antenna (Unalaska, rather than Dutch Harbor), but with 50 watts on a graveyard frek, it would no be easy. Also they are co-channel KLAM Cordova, 250w that no one has logged down here either, as far as I know. When I lived in Seward AK in the 60s, KLAM operated 7:30-9:30 AM, then 5 PM to 10 PM daily. I think they were off on Sundays. Their 250w was quite good across Prince William Sound at over 100 miles. Adak operated on 890 khz for many years and they were heard down here often with 250 watts in the 60s/70s. KSDP-840-Sand Point AK I heard with 250w back in the 90s when they signed on, but in both cases 890 Adak KSDP 840, the frequencies were clear. I would think with a beverage pointed NW from your place up North in the Charlottes, you might nab KIAL with a bit of luck. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KAVT Reception Manager ___ IRCA mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [IRCA] 1450 KIAL Dutch Harbor, AK
Paul, I knew KLAM was 24/7 now. They have been 24/7 for quite a few years. They were locally owned by a guy that ran a repair shop in Cordova I believe back in the 60s when I QSL'd KLAM.
Bruce, Thanks. Now, there would be a job at Unalaska. For the people that want to get away from it all. But I'll bet, DX would be good, if you could take the weather.
KIAL 1450 is 50 Watts into a longwire antenna per a special authorization theyve had since 1977. They have been unable to find suitable land to build a tower. The 4200 watts was a CP they got last year but haven't built yet. They hope to file for an FM license in the upcoming NCE FM Window. KIAL is licensed to Unalaska, Alaska not Dutch Harbor Paul On 4/14/07, Walter Salmaniw [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm wondering if anyone has heard this station. I notice that the 2006 NRC AM radio list doesn't list 1450 as an active station. However, watching the Discovery Channel's excellent series about the Alaska Crab fishery clearly shows KIAL 1450 on the air at the beginning of one of the program's about the start of the Ophelia (snow) crab fishery. NRC mentions 4200 watts, whereas the Radio-Locator website mentions only 1000. They appear to beam primarily north into the Bering Sea. I had no luck on this frequency in Masset in February. There appears to be 2 Alaskans, with the other being on KLAM in Cordova with only 250 watts. This is close to due north from Masset, whereas KIAL would be close to due West.My Beverages should be able to take care of that. .Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
