Mike Stonebridge used to get Yellowknife 1340 once in a while and even as far
North has he is, it wasn't that common. He did log both Yellowknife's though. I
got YK in Seward AK in the 60s as well as CHAK 860. I forgot about them. CHAK
is still on 860 with 1 KW. Common in Seward AK, but never logged here, not with
CFPR running 10 KW fulltime.

Ric's apt was in a converted house in the middle of Downtown... can't
recall his receiver or antenna set-up, but they can't have been too fancy.

Re: [IRCA] Another Alaskan

2014-12-03 Thread Patrick Martin
Nick,

I had a 2,000 foot beverage for years running N/NNW, until they put a road in.
I logged both Whitehorse stations then along with 250w Fort Nelson BC on 590,
all during daylight in the Winter mornings, but CFPR is just too much of a
powerhouse here. Again, cx have to be exceptionally well to get the far North.
It look years to finally log KBRW 680, and CHFA was weak here, and slightly
different in direction. I just had to phase out powerhouse KNBR. But getting
through CFPR and with CHAK running 1 KW, not an easy feat. the NNW EWE dpes ok,
but of course does not have the power the beverage had. I still look for CHAK
from time to time, but AK has not been common this season at all. CX just have
not been good.

Patrick

There are no regularly heard YT or NWT stations from the West Coast. CFWH 570
used to be heard occasionally in the NW and CKRW 610 is rare. (I have both).
CFWH moved to FM a couple years back. The only other YT with any power is CBC
560 400w Dawson City, but I have never seen that reported from anywhere on the
West Coast. NWT has no stations with any power, the two Yellowknife's 1340 and
1240 moved to FM. The few MWs left are all low power 40/50 watters. NUT has
1230, but I have not seen that one reported either. They used to be heard years
ago on 1210. That area is tough these days.

It is a mixed bag up here. With the demise of so many Canadian AMers, several
frequencies have opened up to here more distant stations. 1220 for instance, I
caught WLSD VA on there several years ago. 1220 was totally blocked here in the
NW for years with CJOC as well as CKDA NSP.

 Subject: [IRCA] Another Alaskan heard

 Hi Everyone:

For the first time since I bought the Perseus some weeks back, I set it up
last night to record a block of frequencies centered on 580 using my Hawaiian
BOG. My goal was to try and log either KVMI or KQNG in Hawaii. As expected,
the Perseus produced some huge files to go over today which I did this
afternoon. I've got to find a better time to check them as I missed all the
early afternoon TA activity. Cutting a long story short, I never heard either
target station. However, at 06:00MST (08:00EST) I heard choral music and an
ID for KRSA-Petersburg, Alaska. Totally unexpected and very welcome here, my
fourth new Alaskan of the season.
