Re: [IRCA] New logging

2017-03-08 Thread Les Rayburn
Steve,

I really admire longtime DX’ers who have literally logged every station on a
target frequency with one or two exceptions. At this point in my DXing pursuit,
virtually every night can easily generate an all-time new one for the log. Same
thing on FM.

Congratulations! 46 years is a long time to hunt something!

It's a Grundig portable with a whip. It used to belong to my Dad. Junk

antennas! When I use this radio and someone turns on a flourescent light

for listening to the radio while showering and shaving. Who knows what kind

When you have over 2000 stations logged its rare to get a new one on the
  car
radio. I think it's even rarer to get a new one on the junk radio in
  the
  bathroom while taking a shower.

But I got a new one at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning. During a brief dead
  air
gap at ID time on WXXI 1370 I heard WRWD (Scott must have been using
  the
cough button on the mike). That's Ellenville NY, a daytimer. Previously
loggged as WELV. Usually in the morning it's the Toledo station under
  WXXI,
or the Roaring Springs PA station (is that one even on any more?)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Neil, but I'm nowhere near it.
Still 42 I've never heard. Only 178 of the 200 are active facilities,
the others being 13 deletions and nine frequency changers. SOUTH

one time; four now since Darlington-1400 (ex-1350) and Cameron-1490

Barry's list appears to have some outdated data in it. The station moved
from Gastonia to Pineville (Charlotte) in 2005. (It changed calls at the
same time, from WLTC to WGIV.) The old WLTC tower, which was in the

It was a move of 20 miles or so from the old site to the new site. Some
might count it as a new station as a result.

(Me, I'd be happy to hear them running their proper night power from
either location - there's too much going on at night on 1370 that
shouldn't be there, as we hear every time we drop carrier on WXXI to
check...)

They moved the COL from Gastonia to Pineville in 2005, per Wikipedia.
My old 1990 NRC logbook still has the old WLTC calls, Gastonia COL and 5

BARRY: Your site still shows Gastonia as the COL.

BTW Joe and Rob: I have WGIV in my ULR logbook, too. :)

Sounded like several mentions of urban talk including sports, news, and
some religion, and a station ID that was a little difficult to copy but
sounded like WDIC. Then they ran an ad for a concert at the Bojangles

with this frequency is KBOI, which I heard ID many times along with WSCR.
Several mornings ago I heard jazz type music followed by an undecipherable

Way to go, Mike! The trick, I find with many Alaskans is that they'll ID a few
minutes before the TOH, as opposed to exactly on TOH. This is especially true
with NPR affiliates. KDLG is a regular in Masset, (one of the strongest
Alaskans) and to a lesser extent here in Victoria...Walt

On Friday, I did a quick check of 1530 just after 1700 EST... as

my attention: you can hear me on... every afternoon from 1 till 5,
Monday through Sunday, on WJDM 1530 AM, also 1430 AM, 10 at night
until midnight, and on WPAT I later found all of these details
on his website... turns out Danny is an 85-year-old gent who has been
in broadcasting for more than 60 years. He is said to have a
personal collection of over 250,000 albums, many of which are 78's,
and is still spinning 'em on the air, on four different stations (and

I'm mighty pleased with this catch, and the background story is kinda

Re: [IRCA] NEW LOGGING!! - KBCV 1580 Hollister-Branson, MO

2009-02-05 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I just had my reception of KBCV 1570 officially confirmed via an informal
email from the Bott Radio Network Southwest Missouri Operations Manager,
Paul Schneider.

He says he was quite surprise that someone as far away as me can hear the
signal, when it isn't designed to go more then 30 miles locally. He notes
KBCV-AM has been on the air since July 2007.

the Ozarks, 1570 AM.. The Bott Radio Network or something similar to that.
The signal was NOT very strong at all, then maybe a minute later, I heard
Bott Radio's Executive Vice President Rich Bott speaking about something,
but I'm not sure what. (he has a voice I seem to recognize fairly easily!)

Uh Paul, there seems to be a distorted imbalance of fairness here these
days. You are getting 40+ below day after day and we have been having
temps in the high 60s and now the mid 70s with bright sunshine the last
week. Well, at least the ice should be pretty solid on Superior by now.

I remember the Rockford 1330 station was not in my 1949-53 heard files.
Dunno if they weren't on yet at that time or I just missed them. At any
rate I remember digging them out during my vacation dx (from Iowa)
1979-84. Nice catch.

Our last above zero temp was Sunday. The forecast is for the temp to go above

feeling better.

There are 3 reasons for these low temps:

WGRA Cairo, GA has a PLAN for 110 Watts Non Directional for NIGHTS and
even though you are REQUIRED to notify the FCC that you are using your

WGRA could very well be on the air legally after sunset.
